There's a Midnight 5K at Relay for Life, Friday night at the Forest Lake high school track. It's a fun run---no timing, no advanced registration--just show up a little before midnight at the track.

PLUS you get a really cool Relay luggage tag! Oh, and it's free (although we'd gladly take a free will donation for Relay.)

Our own Carna Brandt, captain of Surf'ivors and two time cancer survivor, was also featured in The Lowdown. Carna lost her best buddy, Connie Irlbeck, this April and their team is dedicating this year's Relay to Connie. It will be an emotional night for them.

Come support everyone on a cancer journey. Believe in HOPE. Live well.

From Doug Palmer, our musical entertainment at the Cancer Survivor Reunion--a very special song and fundraising opportunity for Relay For Life.

Most of us know someone or have a close association with someone that has had to deal with cancer. This monster is everywhere and anyone at any moment regardless of age or gender can be diagnosed with it.

Today, I presented a new song for Relay For Life that attempts to capture the many feelings and emotions that care givers go through while caring for someone they love so dearly. The song is a rewrite of a love song that I wrote many years ago. I felt so compelled to change up the words and to breathe new life into this beautiful song and reuse it to raise funds for cancer research.

My goal was to capture the essence of the relationship between a person going through a cancer journey and the primary care giver. Others will need to comment on whether I succeeded at my attempt or not.

I got pretty choked up trying to sing it during a Survivors Celebration tonight. It was all I could do to keep my composure and perhaps the most heart felt and emotional delivery that I have ever done.

Perhaps when you hear it you will understand why.

Here are those words:

1.) We heard the news, shocked and so confused
Why did this have to be?
Denied and mad, frightened and sad. A new reality
So hard to hear, draw me closer Dear. I’ll be here by your side
We will see this through, grace of God will do,
To comfort and to guide.

CHORUS
You give me love, I’ll give you what you need
We are the best of friends, You’re everything to me
I wonder now and then, about our days ahead
Is this a dream? How will this journey end?

I’ll give you my love, I’ll give you what you need
Anything for you. You mean so much to me
I want our love, to last for all eternity

2.) I reflect on better days, so grateful what we share
Determined now, see this through somehow
He helped us to prepare
And I can’t wait, to celebrate, Little vict’ries day by day
He gave you to me, so that all will see,
What love was meant to be.

Our 10th Annual Cancer Survivor Reunion was held last night at Stella's in Forest Lake. What a beautiful setting! Our honorary Survivor was Ashley Entwistel who shared her story of a seven pound tumor discovered when she was seventeen. Abby Brown shared humor from her cancer journey from her book "What about the hair down there?" Keys' Cafe provided delicious desserts and Doug Palmer provided musical entertainment. We had so many donated door prizes that every survivor received one if not two gifts.

Thank you to the organizing committee: Lisa Hansen, Linda Hackl, Gwen Patrick, Jody Rick and Kathy Bystrom.

Everyone is invited to join us at Relay For Life on August 1, 6:30pm, at the Forest Lake high school track. There's something for the whole family. Come celebrate life, remember those lost to cancer and fight back!
