Alzheimer's is a neurological disease that is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. Unlike other diseases on this list, according to the Alzheimer's Association, it is the ONLY disease that does not have any known cure or treatment to slow down its progression. What is especially frightening about Alzheimer's is that 1 in 4 people are diagnosed in their lifetime. Furthermore, there
is no guarantee of when it will occur. It is a terrifying reality, but we must face this issue and take action to put an end to this disease. The Dolores Foundation for Alzheimer's Research, Inc. is dedicated to enhance the awareness of this neurological disease. Our organization, along with others are collecting as much information as possible to make it clear to others that medical research funding and support must increase, or else diagnoses will dramatically increase by 2050 according to medical researchers, where we can witness about almost 14 million people in the world living with Alzheimers. Research supported by NIA and other organizations has expanded knowledge of brain function in healthy older people, identified ways we might lessen normal age-related declines in mental function, and deepened our understanding of the disease. Many scientists and physicians are now working together to untangle the genetic, biological, and environmental factors that, over many years, ultimately result in Alzheimer’s.
