PLEASE NOTE: **We will be closed for the month of February and will re-open Saturday, March 5th. There is a compost drop-off site managed by DSNY – Sundays – between 10:00am and 1:00 pm at MacDonald Park (adjacent to the Farmer’s Market) you may drop off there during the month of February.
***Food Scrap Drop Off: Before dropping off with us (food scraps, leaves, yard waste, branches etc.), you
are required to take a one-time intro-class. Please arrive no later than 11:55AM. Thank you. *** This is an agreement we entered into with DSNY and the NYC Compost Project. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. We are open 12-2 pm every Saturday rain or shine. Come and join us in building up the community and being part of the positive change. We welcome your involvement. You can find us located on the corner of where Kessel Street meets Yellowstone Boulevard in Forest Hills. We are no longer operating at 50 Ascan Avenue. We are a volunteer group that promotes community composting in New York City. We established the first community compost site in Central Queens at The Church-in-the-Gardens in 2011 and are the only community compost group in New York City that distributes finished compost to the public free of charge. Together with BIG! Compost, we have been managing the organics drop off site at the Forest Hills Green Market since its inception in 2013. We recently re-opened after a long pandemic break and we are accepting volunteers and we have recently teamed up with Queens Botanical Garden and are collecting food scraps since the food scrap collection was cancelled at the Forest Hills Farmers Market. Come and join us in building community and being part of the positive change. Since the pandemic we are open 12-2 pm every Saturday rain or shine, we teamed up with the Queens Botanical Gardens and we accept drop offs if you take our free introductory composting class. The class is given every Saturday at 12 noon. Please come a few minutes early to sign the waiver form if you wish to take the class. We are 100 percent volunteer run and we do not have the bandwidth to hold more than one class per day anymore. This is an agreement we entered into with DSNY and the NYC Compost Project. Unfortunately if you do not take the class then we can not accept your drop off’s and will be asked to return and take the class if you want to participate. We as a volunteer organization receive zero funding from NYC. The time we spend and the money we spend comes 100 percent from our volunteers. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
