The Gift of Sight
The Wonders and Significance of Vision
Sight is truly one of our most cherished senses, deeply influencing how we experience and connect with the world around us. It allows us to marvel at the beauty of nature, delight in art, and share meaningful moments with our loved ones. Sadly, many people face challenges with their vision that can greatly impact their daily lives. Common issues, such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, can hinder one’s ability to see clearly, often requiring glasses or contact lenses for correction. Additionally, more serious conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration can lead to significant vision loss or even blindness if not properly treated.

For over 60 years, Dooley InterMed has been dedicated to helping those in need by providing humanitarian aid and medical training in some of the world’s most challenged regions. Specialized Equipment, Training, Knowledge, and Surgical Skills

In the fall of 2023, we received a request for help from an eye hospital we have worked closely with in Nepal. (Reiyukai Eiko Masunaga Eye Hospital) Healthcare providers in the developing world have very limited access to specialized equipment or training, and their need for up-to-date knowledge and enhanced surgical skills is overwhelming. One striking example was a local ophthalmologist striving to learn specialized surgical techniques by watching YouTube videos. Clearly, help was urgently needed.
