All Hail the Doer! This Labor Day, Let's Celebrate the Heart of Our Lodges

As we gather to celebrate Labor Day, a time dedicated to honoring the contributions of hardworking men and women across our nation, let us also take a moment to recognize the driving force within our Elks Lodges: the Doer. Just as Labor Day pays tribute to those who have built and sustained our communities, we must celebrate those in our Lodges who tirelessly work to keep our mission alive and thriving.

The Doer is the one who steps up when something needs fixing, who cooks, cleans, bartends, serves on committees, recruits new members, builds the parade float, marches in local parades, and so much more. These are the individuals who, through their actions, embody the spirit of Labor Day every day of the year.

It's easy to focus on what might have gone wrong or who made a mistake, but this Labor Day, let’s shift our focus to what truly matters: the dedication and effort of the Doer. We all know that every person is imperfect, and those who do more naturally take on more risks. But it is through these efforts, these acts of doing, that our Lodges continue to grow and succeed.

When you hear someone criticize a Doer, remember that it is these individuals—flaws and all—who make our Lodges better. Their willingness to contribute, to act, and to keep moving forward is what drives our success.

So this Labor Day, let’s come together to celebrate the Doers. Let’s honor those who contribute, who take initiative, and who make a difference—because without them, our Lodges would not be the vibrant communities they are today.
