Today we are honoring the memory of Deputy Austin "Melvin" Richardson.

Melvin was working for the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department on June 14, 2022 when he was driving on Hwy 275 and his Chevy Tahoe collided with a harvesting combine traveling in the other direction. He passed from his injuries.

Melvin was loved by many including his 3 beautiful daughters Bryxtol, Cheyenne, and Everly, as well as his best friend and wife, Jennifer.

Thank you for your service, Deputy Austin “Melvin” Richardson. We will never forget your sacrifice. May God bless you and your family and may you rest in peace.

As we enjoy the freedoms secured by those who gave everything, let’s take time this Memorial Day to pause and remember.

Whether through a moment of silence, attending a local ceremony, or sharing one of these Memorial Day quotes, each act of remembrance helps ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten.

May we remember our FOTF honored heros and all the others out there who gave the ultimate sacrifice doing what they loved!

NATIONAL POLICE WEEK 2026
May 10 - 16

National Police Week was established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 through a joint resolution of Congress that authorized the president to designate May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which that date falls as Police Week.

The proclamation recognized the devoted, selfless service of federal, state, and municipal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty, and it directed that the U.S. flag be flown at half-staff on that day. The intent was to honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of law enforcement officers who have given their lives protecting the public, as well as to support their families and communities.

National Police week is both a time of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day. It reminds us that behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice and family. (Fraternal Order of Police)
