Marcia's Garden of Hope Golf Outing Team Donates $10,000 to the ACMH Laube Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund
Representatives from ACMH Hospital and the Laube Cancer Center recently joined the Marcia’s Garden of Hope committee to accept a portion of the proceeds raised from the October 1, 2023 golf outing event.
“The main thing is giving back to the community that gave so much to my mom,” said Jason Orton, who spoke on behalf of the family and the golf outing committee. “When she (Marcia Orton) was battling cancer, the ACMH Foundation Cancer Assistance Fund was able to help her, and the entire community really came together when she was first diagnosed. We pull this golf outing together in her memory so that we can be able to do that same thing for others.”
Jason Orton, EMT-P, B.S., facilitates Prehospital Care Services for Allegheny Health Network and ACMH Hospital.
“Armstrong County bands together and helps one another out when it’s needed. And that starts here with our community hospital,” Jason stated.
“I think it’s important whenever someone is going through a serious medical condition to have their support system close by. So, if we can effectively treat patients here in our community, instead of them having to go to Pittsburgh, that’s incredible.”
“Without this cancer center, that close level of support would not have been possible,” Jason concluded.
Nichole Geraci, ACMH Hospital President and CEO, expressed thanks to the team for the donation and commented on Jason Orton’s statement.
“The fact that you are able to do this in honor of your mother, and be able to give back to the cancer center is just amazing,” said Nichole Geraci. “We are so happy to have Marcia’s legacy enhance the level of care we provide to our patients through this generous donation.”

ABOUT MARCIA’S GARDEN OF HOPE
Marcia Orton, was diagnosed in February of 2015 with Stage 4 breast cancer that had metastasized to her spinal cord and brain. At the time of diagnosis, she was given a life expectancy of 6 months. At that time, Marcia had 3 grandchildren that she was determined to fight for and ensure that they would not forget her as they were all very young. Marcia battled the disease for over 4 years. Her last year of life was a battle with more bad days than good. However, she would muster up the energy and strength to make special memories with her family. These memories are now so special to her family but especially her grandchildren who frequently refer to these times. With all that being said, two of Marcia's passions in life were family and community. Our goal is to continue that legacy and help other families create special memories with their loved ones.
