Junior League Football began in Fontana in 1963. It was through the efforts of many leading citizens and the Fontana Elks Lodge that the first team was fielded. It was a midget division team named the Bucks and had 21 boys eager to learn and play the game of football…
The P*e Wee Division Elks were started in 1964. That same year with the sponsorship of the Fontana Chamber of Commerce, the Steeler
Bowl was created. It was one of the first Pop Warner Bowl games to gain national recognition. Teams from as far as Canada, Hawaii, Mexico, and Texas have come to play in Fontana for our Post Season Steeler Bowl. In 1965, the wildcats, later to be renamed the Lions were added to Fontana’s P*e Wee Division. The P*e Wee Wolves were added in 1966, the Jr. P*e Wee Hawks in 1971, and lastly the Tiny Tot Eagles in 1972. After the 1974 season, the Eagles were disbanded and the Wolves were moved from the P*e Wee division to the new Jr. Midget division. After the 1975 season, the remaining two P*e Wee teams combined into one team under the Elks banner. In 1976, we fielded 2 Jr. P*e Wee teams, the Hawks and the Falcons, the P*e Wee Elks, the Jr. Midget Wolves and the Midget Bucks. That same year, the Jr. Midgets will be playing as the Lions. With one team in each division, we rounded out our local program to encompass all ages and weights.
