Allow me to introduce myself as the youngest member-at-large of the Ebony Vision board!
My name is Mykala Anthony, and I am 29 years old. I am so excited and appreciative of this opportunity with Ebony Vision. I am a full-time student at Marian University, where I am pursuing my bachelor's degree in Middle/Secondary Education and English Education. When I'm not studying, you'll usually find my nose buried in a good poetry book or writing poetry! These two passions allow me to explore creativity, connect with others, and express myself.
One of my proudest accomplishments is having my poem, dedicated to my 3 year0old daughter, published in Furrow. Seeing my writing in print was both humbling and inspiring, encouraging me to continue pursuing my love of the written word.
A stanza from a poem that inspires me is from Li-Young Lee's "From Blossoms":
"There are days we live
as if death were nowhere
in the background; from joy
to joy to joy, from wing to wing,
from blossom to blossom to
impossible blossom, to sweet impossible blossom."
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of Ebony Vision and look forward to learning, growing, and connecting with such an inspiring community. Thank you for welcoming me, and I can't wait to begin this journey! Here's to new beginnings, meaningful connections, and making a positive impact together!
