Today, 5/29 @ Castle Park

There are still skilled volunteers on site, knocking out the "redo" list [big thanks to Mark, Sri & Rick...and to the others who have given time]!!

There is also a huge pile of debris [mostly scrap "cuts"] that needs to be moved into the dumpster, which is on site.

Many hands - make light work. If you can spare a few minutes today; the sooner we get the site cleared...the sooner the City will be able to open the park. I will head out there again today - won't you join me?

Please know that this project has been HUGE and were it not for the extremely hard working "men in the field" of the Parks & Recreation Department [Chris O'Keefe and his guys: Alfonso/Kevin/Mark/Rick/John & Josh and SO.MANY.MORE plus the unsung, unnamed volunteers who have worked to bring this build to completion [from Rotary; Friends of Folsom Parkways, etc.] - we would not be where we are [mother nature has certainly NOT been a helpful member of the team].

YOUR park is almost completed...PLEASE COME OUT AND HELP US GET IT TO THE FINISH LINE.

We'll be here, today, until 3:30-4 PM.

CASTLE PARK UPDATE

Staff still needs help.

Punch list, hopefully completed today.

Site clean up needed...anyone welcome to come help with that!

63 additional fence pickets en route - those will need to be cut, routed, counter-sunk & installed. [They were shipped yesterday, directly to the park - I am waiting on tracking info so I can notify all when they are due to arrive].

Staff also, next, going through the "re-do" list.

And eventually, benches need to be built inside the sandbox (long story).

Hubby on his way out there now - I'll be out today working on site clean up.

Thanks for heading out to help when/if you can.

Hey - any skilled handyman types out there...available M-F; during the day; starting today, who can help us knock out a punch list at Castle Park?

This isn't an "all call"...only truly skilled peeps needed right now.

A Folsom Parks & Recreation update...we are still asking them to clarify, yes or no, on the question of more volunteer hours. Stay tuned.

The momentum continues at Castle Park! 🏰

After an incredible first phase—made possible by 1,000+ dedicated volunteers and city staff—construction is moving full speed ahead. Thank you again to everyone who showed up (rain and all) to help bring this project to life 🙌

Work will continue through the end of May, including site preparation, landscaping, and installation of amenities like benches and a drinking fountain. Play structures are being finalized, with safety surfacing coming in mid-May, followed by inspections and final touches.

We’re getting closer to the finish line and can’t wait to welcome you back to a beautifully reimagined Castle Park.

Stay tuned for grand opening details coming soon! 🎉

To be clear: our founder, Joanne Brausch was not the only voice calling for the rebuild of Castle Park...she was, perhaps the most tenacious (and - as it turns out - in the right place/right time to move the ball forward). To name the few we know before us: Friends of Folsom Parkways, Anna Rohrbough - City Councilperson, and Kelly Gonzalez - Folsom Parks & Recreation Director (and perhaps other Directors before her) had all been looking for ways to make it happen. Citizens were continually inquiring about the deterioration of the original structure.

One thing was clear - Castle Park needed new life!

Commissions & Councils agreed and continued to support the rebuild as a priority. Our newest City Manager, Bryan Whitemyer supported the project.

It was absolutely a collaborative effort to launch the vision of Castle Park 2.0!

We played a role over the nearly 3 years this has been underway...but the lion's share of the funding & project management was assumed by the City of Folsom and most especially by the hard working men & women of the Parks and Recreation Department. The kudos should be lauded on them!

You, the donors & volunteers!! You caught the vision, kept it center stage and supported it with your $$$ and your time.

A labor of love - paying homage to the original structure - allowing it to be reborn to serve generations to come...we merely kept our eyes on that prize!

While we await further direction...a round of thank you's are in order for the build period we just completed.

To YOU - the citizens of Folsom who came out to give of your time & talent...whether for an hour or two; a day or two; or ALL 6 days: sun up to sun down (braving all kinds of weather) - THANK YOU!

To the men & women of the City of Folsom Parks & Recreation Department...for your tireless efforts to keep the job site running smoothly; for EVERY task you performed (seen & unseen) for days and days and days (weeks & weeks, months & months years & years) - THANK YOU.

To the other men & women - who usually staff City Hall, who answered the call (or were volun-told) to come help when our volunteer turn out was lower than anticipated - THANK YOU

To the Crew Captains - who were on site all day, every day, for 6 days manning tool & equipment trailers; saws; directing construction teams; giving it their all through rain/thunder/lightning, mud and flood - THANK YOU

To all the other non-profit & civic/service organizations who turned out in big numbers every time they were asked pre-build & community build days - THANK YOU

To the terrific trio: Justin-Caleb-Nick of Leathers & Associates who lead the build and kept us moving forward - THANK YOU

To the food suppliers & donors who kept our on site crews fed with fabulous food (in generous quantities) bringing high value, literally to the table - THANK YOU

To our MAJOR PARK PARTNERS: Granite - KYA - the Rotary Clubs of Folsom and Little Folks University; you gave financial support/in kind services in BIG WAYS and your generosity/support of this effort is so greatly appreciated - THANK YOU

To our $500 to $5000 Park Partners - you, too, gave SO generously to support this project! Most of you are regular Folsom families who knew what a treasure the 1996 version was, and wanted to be sure the 2026 version was given every chance to come to life, so - THANK YOU!

For every other cash contribution and for the personalized brick and fence slat/picket donations - THANK YOU

To everyone behind the scenes, the unsung/unseen heroes who managed our media; shared our information; published our stories; designed & printed our t-shirts; delivered fences & porta potties & c-tainers; gave us flats of water and so much more - THANK YOU.

To two cycles of P&R Commissioners; City Councilpersons; and City Managers who recognized the regional value of this iconic park and supported the vision of bringing it back to life for the next generations - THANK YOU

Seriously, THANK YOU to everyone, for everything.

This took, and will continue to take, an entire community effort!

Our beloved Castle Park may take a bit longer to come back online than we anticipated...but OH! She is SO going to be worth the wait!!

Video evidence regarding where we stopped.

Yes - just a little rundown to show where the six days ended. (Reminder: I suck as a videographer). 🤣

Still a ways to go! 😘

Stay tuned for what comes next! 👍
