🌟 SEDA Junior Classic Volunteer Call! 🌟

The excitement is building for the SEDA Junior Classic! We already have **30 riders entered** from across the region, and we only have room for a couple more competitors before we reach capacity. It's shaping up to be a fantastic weekend of horses, sportsmanship, and fun! For many of the competitors, this will be there FIRST horse show!

Now we need our amazing SEDA village to help make it happen. Volunteers are critical to the success of this event, and we have several opportunities available:

📅 **Friday, June 19 OR Saturday, June 20**
🔹 Move the dressage arena from LEC to Hunters Bluff and help set it up
🔹 Pick up shavings from S&S and help distribute them to stalls
🔹 Hang sponsor banners around the dressage arena

📅 **Friday, June 26**
🔹 Donate the Use & Transport tables/picnic tables to Hunters Bluff and set up the competitor hospitality area
🔹 Parking Lot Assistant

📅 **Saturday, June 27**
🔹 Announcer
🔹 Dressage Arena breakdown and transport back to LEC
🔹 Runners

📅 **Sunday, June 28**
🔹 Warm-Up Ring Steward
🔹 Jump Arena Ring Steward
🔹 Announcer
🔹 Score Runners
🔹 Award Ceremony Helpers

This event would not be possible without our volunteers. Whether you can help for an hour or an entire day, your support makes a tremendous difference for our junior riders.

📩 If you'd like to volunteer, please contact Danielle Aymond directly. She can be reached at [email protected] or 337-515-4127.

Let's make the return of the SEDA Junior Classic LEGENDARY! 🐴🏆

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has provided an important update on New World Screwworm which has been detected in a bovine in Zavala County, Texas. Read the full press release here: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/news/agency-announcements/usda-confirms-presence-new-world-screwworm-united-states

General information about New World Screwworm (NWS) can be found in the text below and in the attached infographic.

The adult screwworm fly is about the size of a common housefly (or slightly larger), with orange eyes, a metallic blue or green body, and three dark stripes along its back. It gets its name from the behavior of its larvae (maggots) as they burrow (screw) into the wound, feeding as they go. The maggots (larvae) cause extensive damage by tearing at the hosts’ tissue with sharp mouth hooks. The wound can quickly become enlarged and deeper as more maggots hatch and feed on living tissue.

Because they feed on live flesh, NWS maggots may burrow deep into wounds or openings, while other species of maggots may appear around the outer surface of the wound. In addition, even the smallest wounds have the potential to attract flies, so it is imperative that you keep a close eye on your animals for any signs of wounds.

Lastly, NWS infestations are a reportable disease! Immediately report any suspicious wounds, maggots, or infestations to a local accredited veterinarian, your State Animal Health Official, or a USDA veterinarian.

The has issued temporary requirements for the interstate movement of animals following the recent detection of New World screwworm in Texas. This is a proactive order, effective immediately, aimed at early detection and prevention to help protect animal health. Suspected cases must be reported as soon as possible at 225-925-3980 or [email protected].
