"Before Powerhouse, I was a dope fiend, chain-smoking s*x addict. I had a best friend pass away in my room, and many others—including myself—OD and almost die. Ambulance rides and trashy hotels were normal for me. I was the definition of a powerless person, and self-sabotage was one of my favorite hobbies.

If I’m being real, I had ulterior motives coming in—hearing about a free place for two years and a free dentist had me all in. I was missing my top six teeth, so yeah, I couldn’t pass that up. I wasn’t planning to go back to drugs, but I was still planning to hook up with people from dating apps. I had something lined up, but I chose to bring it to Kevin, one of the pastors, thinking he might be chill about it. Well, that conversation didn’t go the way I expected—but it changed something in me.

Today, I am only a few weeks away from celebrating one year free from s*xual addiction and ni****ne, and almost 2 years free from 5 other substances! I enjoy the simple things—like going to sleep in a clean bed and waking up with joy. I care about my finances. I have a savings account. I budget every week. I’ve changed everything. I’ve become someone who speaks up, resolves problems with love, sets boundaries, and steps into uncomfortable situations with courage and boldness. I can’t wait to see what this new future is going to look like! "

"Before coming into Powerhouse, my life was defined by chaos. I lived in a constant state of fight-or-flight, moving from one abusive relationship to another, holding onto hope that often felt completely out of reach. My breaking point came when my partner left bruises on my body in front of my five-month-old son. At that moment, everything became clear. Looking at my child, I knew this could not be his future.

I found Powerhouse in July 2024 and entered the program in August 2024. The transformation God has done in my life is undeniable. I am unrecognizable compared to who I was before. Today, I am a student at Folsom Lake College, working toward becoming a dental hygienist. I am just getting started, and while I don’t know exactly where God will lead me next, I know through Him, anything is possible."

We're kicking off summer at the Steve Miklos Aquatic Center this Sunday, June 7th, from 6:00-8:00 PM! We have entry and dinner covered. Bring your friends and family and come cool off in the pool! This will be in place of our regular Sunday Night Church service.

“Behind the scenes, I was struggling with anxiety and depression. I felt worthless, damaged, broken, and like I would never be good for anything. I got really good at hiding, and most people couldn’t see the pain I was carrying.

By my senior year, things only got worse. I kept drinking and va**ng, and my depression got deeper. I was desperate and exhausted, and it felt like my life was never going to change. I started thinking about su***de.

When I moved into the Leadership College at Powerhouse, I met people who struggled with the same things I did, and for the first time, I didn’t feel alone. I learned about God’s forgiveness and that He loves me for who I am. I started to understand the importance of community and what it means to be supported.

My life is different today. I have people I can talk to when I need someone. I trust others with my real feelings, and I don’t have to hide anymore. I feel like I can finally use my voice—and I know now that I’m worth more than I ever realized.“

“When I moved into the Powerhouse Women and Children’s Center two years ago, I was barely able to look anyone in the eye and I was filled with shame and an emptiness I will never forget. I was homeless, bouncing back and forth between psychiatric hospitals and crisis shelters. I had my children removed from my custody and was so deep in my addiction I thought death was the only answer to the hole I had dug.

Now I proudly lift my head and pray that everyone I come in contact with sees the love of Jesus through my eyes. In this journey, I have developed such a tender, intimate relationship with Jesus. I have been able to reclaim my name and have found my identity in God. This is where I draw my strength.”
