The Kiwanis Club of Folsom Lake was proud to be represented today by Ira J Rothman at the reconstruction of the Folsom Kids Play Castle Park. Our club purchased both a Brick and a Fence Slat to support the rebuilding of this beloved community space.

This project is especially meaningful to us — Kiwanis members helped with the original build back in 1996, and we’re honored to continue that legacy nearly 30 years later.

Community service comes full circle, and we’re grateful to play a part in bringing joy to the next generation of Folsom families.

Today our club heard from Jackie Simon, Community Relations Coordinator for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Sacramento County. Jackie shared the history of CASA, the tremendous benefits it provides to children in foster care, and the ongoing need for dedicated volunteers.

CASA Volunteers play a vital role in giving vulnerable children a strong, consistent voice in court and ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive. Research shows that children paired with a CASA are more likely to find safe, permanent homes, do better in school, and are half as likely to re-enter foster care — powerful outcomes that change lives.

We’re grateful to Jackie for helping us better understand how CASA strengthens our community and how each of us can make a difference.

The Kiwanis Club of Folsom Lake had a wonderful time helping entertain kids at the Folsom Festival of Eggs on Saturday, April 4. About 400 children stopped by our booth to “fish” for a surprise — and their smiling faces made every moment worth it.

We were grateful for the help of three Key Club members from Oak Ridge High School, the grandson of one of our members, a potential new member, and four of our own members who kept the fun going all morning.

In the days leading up to the event, four Kiwanis members and five Key Club members worked together to stuff eggs and bags with goodies to make sure every child went home with a treat.
Community, teamwork, and joyful kids — that’s what Kiwanis is all about.

If you’d like to make a difference in the lives of children and families in our community, we’d love to have you join us. Learn more at folsomlakekiwanis.org.

Today the Kiwanis Club of Folsom Lake heard from three of Folsom’s School Resource Officers, who support the 17 schools across our city. Although there are typically two officers in these roles, a transition this week allowed us the rare opportunity to hear from all three and gain insight from multiple perspectives.

We learned that Folsom will be launching the Shield Academy youth program next year, offering 14 after‑school sessions held on campus following the Thursday short day. The officers also shared how their toolkit includes a therapy dog that helps calm students experiencing anxiety — a thoughtful resource that’s making a real difference for kids. We heard from Folsom School Resource Officers Sears, Romo and Zazhitskiy.

The Club had a great evening supporting Folsom’s Hope Family Movie Night by providing hot dogs, buns, chips, and water for the kids and their families. It’s always a joy to help create simple moments that bring our community together.
