Salty Kidz

Salty Kidz Salty Kidz is a 501(c)3 non-profit that was started by a few surfers, kayakers, and social workers to give any and all kids a chance to get on the water.

We provide safe and fun surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding and educational outings for children in the community. We believe in the benefits that the salt life has given us, and that every child should have an opportunity to experience it. We are a privately funded non-profit, and rely on the community’s generosity and support to continue giving life changing experiences to the kids.

Another fun oyster fact! Ever wonder why our local oysters, Eastern Oyster(Crassostrea virginica), grow in clusters? Its because they are born as a free floating organism called a spat. The spat floats through the water and latches onto any hard surface. That's why you see them on docks and piling. The best thing for them to latch onto is other oysters. If you clear an oyster bed out, the oysters won't be able to grow back without a hard substrate to latch onto. That's why we have an oyster recycling program. The DNR collects empty oyster shells and deposits them on the bank for future oysters to attach to. Come to Mad River this Saturday December 14th 6-9pm and enjoy all the oysters and beer you would like. Live music, silent auction, and good times. $25 in advance $30 day of.
