It’s almost here. Time for the annual Youth and Family Fishing Derby. This Saturday, June 6 at the Folkston Elementary School lake. 🎣
**Free crickets for bait will be offered to the first 150 kids between ages 3 and 15 that register to fish.
**There will also be a limited amount of worms, rod and reels, poles, and tackle for those that don’t have everything they need.
**No fishing license is required for adults at this derby because it is on a free fishing weekend as part of National Fishing and Boating Week.— at Folkston Elementary School

Currently, environmental conditions are conducive to the development of downy mildew on cucurbit plants. Proactive measures are necessary to prevent infestations. Recommended control options include: Cucurbits (Cucumber, squash, cantaloupe); Orondis opti; Elumin+Bravo; Ranman+Bravo; and Previcur flex+Bravo. Please note that if Orondis was previously applied as a soil treatment, it should not be used as a foliar application, as per product label instructions. The 2026 Georgia 4-H Photo Contest is open! All 4-H'ers in 4th-12th grades and adults may submit two photos under each of the five categories per participant:
Focus on 4-H Agriculture and STEM
Focus on 4-H Camp and Environmental Education
Focus on 4-H Citizenship, Leadership, and Service
Focus on 4-H Healthy Living
Focus on 4-H Volunteerism
ALL photos must have been taken between August 1, 2025 – July 31, 2026, by the 4-H member or adult who is submitting the photo. Complete guidelines for each of these categories are outlined on the website (georgia4h.org/photo). Deadline for submissions is Monday, August 31, 2026. Each selected photo will earn a $25.00 prize.
