oley, AL. It preserves wetland species native to the Gulf Coast. The preserve is open to the public at no charge. It has walking trails, an outdoor classroom for school field trips, a kayak and canoe launch and more. Graham Creek is part of the Wolf Bay Watershed in Baldwin County, Alabama, just 6 miles from the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Habitats include the freshwater creek, open fields, riparian woods and a pitcher plant bog. The preserve is owned by the City of Foley, which has received grand funding for access and education facilities from the Alabama State Lands Division, Department of Conservation and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The 3rd Annual Nest Fest will be held on Sunday, May 31st from 2-6 p.m. at Orange Beach Waterfront Park.

The free event is hosted by City of Orange Beach Coastal Resources, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and Audubon.
There will be interactive games, art activities and educational booths.

Downtown walking tours of historic Foley take place each Saturday in April. Participants hear about more than a century of Foley history as they study buildings such as the 1909 L&N Depot, Magnolia Hotel, Holmes Medical Museum and other South Baldwin landmarks. The tours begin at 10 a.m. at the Foley Welcome Center and take about one hour.

Monarch City USA is proud to announce our newest member and the state of Alabama’s FIRST Monarch City! FOLEY, ALABAMA! The city is located in southern Baldwin County, situated on the state’s beautiful Gulf Coast. A mild, subtropical climate and several scenic rivers and picturesque bays in the area provide year round outdoor activities. As the 7th fastest growing metro area in the country in 2024, Foley prides itself on balancing this rapid growth with a commitment to ecological conservation and educating its citizens on the natural world around them.

The city of Foley owns and operates the Graham Creek Nature Preserve, a 650 acre parcel on the north side of Wolf Bay. The preserve features a number of ecologically significant habitats and offers numerous educational programs. Its newest addition will be a butterfly conservatory to raise native butterflies and their host plants. This facility will also be used to host field trips to educate students on the importance of native pollinators and habitat conservation. The city of Foley has plans to partner with the Alabama Cooperative Extension Program and provide them access to the conservatory and the preserve grounds to conduct research on native milkweed.

A big thanks to FOLEY, for helping us in our goal to bring a Monarch City to every state in the nation! As of last month, there were 23 states in the USA without a single Monarch City. Now with the addition of the state of Alabama to MC USA, we can drop that number to 22. A new win for the monarch!!
