May was a month full of hard work, heavy moments, and big wins.

We welcomed 43 new intakes and now care for 351 cats across our programs. We completed 23 TNRs, answered 83 calls for help, and held 3 volunteer orientations to grow our team. We used 91 bags of cat food to keep everyone fed. We also experienced heartbreak with the loss of 1 sanctuary cat and 8 fragile kittens.

Coastal Cats & Critters is 100% funded by donations and run entirely by volunteers. We don’t receive government support; every rescue, every TNR, every bottle baby, every sanctuary resident is cared for because of people who give their time, resources, and hearts.

Your support keeps us going. Whether you donate, volunteer, foster, or simply share our posts, you make this work possible. Thank you for standing with us and helping protect the cats and critters who depend on our sanctuary every day.

It’s $5 Friday — and today we’re talking about one of the biggest, most essential expenses of running a 300‑cat sanctuary: flea & tick prevention.

Every single one of our residents gets one long‑acting dose that protects them for five full months. It’s safe, effective, and absolutely necessary… but it’s not cheap.

We average $10 per cat for that 5‑month protection.
With 300+ cats, that means we spend over $3,000 at once just to keep everyone parasite‑free through the worst of the season.

That’s thousands of dollars in one hit — for something you’ll never see in a photo, but that makes all the difference in their comfort and health.

Your $5 today truly matters.
Your $1 matters.
When hundreds of people give a little, we can cover this huge seasonal cost and keep every cat safe, itch‑free, and protected from the diseases fleas and ticks can carry.

Thank you for helping us care for a community this big, this fragile, and this loved. 💛🐾

Our blessing boxes around Silverhill and Marlow are freshly filled this week with cat food, dog food, and other pet essentials — stocked with love by our community for anyone who needs a little help caring for their animals.

You’ll also find new info sheets inside each box with details about Safe Harbor Animal Coalition’s affordable spay/neuter options, including how to schedule and what support is available. Early spay/neuter keeps our community animals healthier and reduces suffering, and we want everyone to have access to it. If you need help with access to a carrier or there are other factors limiting your ability to utilize their wonderful programs, just let us know so we can work together to find a solution.

And just a reminder: even when we’re not posting about it, we are still out there filling boxes. If you know of a spot that’s running low or an area where a blessing box is needed, please let us know. We want to make sure help is reaching the families and pets who need it most.

If you need food or supplies, please take what you need.
If you’re able to give, adding even a few cans or a small bag of kibble makes a real difference.

Community caring for community — that’s how we keep bellies full and tails wagging. 💛🐾

Our kitten room is officially at capacity — and these babies are ready for their forever homes.

Noon, Pétri, Miranda, Carrie, Mr. Big, Stanford, and Natasha are growing fast, eating us out of house and home, and they’re about to hit the stage where they need their own families to keep thriving.

Every one of them will be fixed, microchipped, and receive their first round of kitten vaccines before adoption. They’re healthy, social, and at the perfect age to bond deeply with their new people.

But here’s the truth:
Kitten season is hitting hard, and we cannot take in the next wave until these little ones are placed.
Adopting now directly opens space for the next litter that needs us.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting — this is the moment.
Our adoption application is available through Stray Love Foundation, and the link will be posted below.

Let’s get these babies into loving homes so we can keep saving more.

🐾 Why Spaying & Neutering by 5 Months Matters More Than Most People Realize 🐾

Most people are shocked to learn this, but cats can get pregnant as early as 4 months old. That means by the time a kitten looks old enough to think about spaying or neutering… they may already be expecting a litter.

And every litter born during kitten season represents the same heartbreaking truth:
a cat we didn’t reach in time.

Spaying and neutering by 5 months:

• Prevents accidental litters during the busiest, most overwhelming time of year for shelters and rescues
• Stops the cycle of suffering for kittens born outside, where most won’t survive
• Protects the young mother cat, whose tiny body isn’t ready for pregnancy
• Reduces roaming, spraying, fighting, and stress-related illnesses
• Keeps community cat populations stable and healthier

Early-age spay/neuter is safe, recommended by veterinarians, and one of the most powerful ways to reduce the flood of kittens who need bottle-feeding, medical care, and homes every spring and summer.

If your kitten is approaching 4–5 months old, now is the perfect time to schedule that appointment. One simple decision can prevent generations of hardship.

Because the best way to save kittens… is to prevent them from being born into danger in the first place.
