Welcome to the South Baldwin Literacy Council. We are a 501 (c)(3) Non-Profit agency that elevates our community through free tutoring services. We offer services for both adults and children. A few of the services we offer are Reading and Math help, ESL, GED Prep and Testing, Summer tutoring, and Workplace Education.

We are still looking for in-school tutors!

South Baldwin Literacy Council is looking for volunteers to help make a difference in the lives of local students at Swift, Foley, Elberta, and Magnolia Elementary Schools.

Volunteers can choose the school that works best for them, enjoy a flexible schedule, and work with students one-on-one or in small groups to help build their reading and math skills.

You don’t have to be a teacher to make a difference. You just need a willingness to show up, encourage a child, and help them grow.

We are so excited to partner with the Boys & Girls Club and Foley United Methodist Church to serve even more kids in our community!

Krissy May had the opportunity to speak with the congregation at FUMC about our tutoring program, what we’ll be providing for the students, and how they can get involved as volunteers.

Through this new partnership, we’ll be providing free tutoring to students from the Boys & Girls Club right here at Foley United Methodist Church.

It takes a community working together to make a difference, and we are so grateful for organizations and volunteers who believe in investing in our kids and helping them succeed.

Jared is AMAZING and has been keeping our buildings looking great for the past few years. He always does an awesome job, and we truly appreciate him taking care of us!

And clearly, we aren’t the only ones who think he’s great — he’s also a Best of Baldwin winner!

What a night! 📚✨🫖

The Foster Kids Matter crew had an absolute BLAST at South Baldwin Literacy Council’s Trivia Night! This event's Folklore & Fairytales theme brought out some seriously creative tables, plenty of laughs, and maybe just a little friendly competition. 😉

We’re so grateful to be part of a community that shows up for organizations doing incredible work. Congratulations to the entire SBLC team on a SOLD OUT night and raising more than $34,000 to support their free educational programs and services! 👏💙

Wow! What an amazing night we had last night at our Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser 2026!

We had a SOLD OUT event at the Foley Civic Center, and everyone showed up and dressed for the occasion for our Folklore & Fairytales theme. Our staff, along with our Executive Director, Steve, even came dressed as Disney Princesses!

Most importantly, we raised well over $34,000 to support the free educational programs and services we provide at South Baldwin Literacy Council. We are incredibly grateful for the support that made this possible.

A huge thank you to our staff, our board of directors, volunteers, judges, sponsors, local businesses, and, of course, everyone who attended. It takes so many people to make an event like this happen, and we appreciate every single person who helped make the night special.

To our community and the businesses who continue to support SBLC and believe in what we do, thank you.

Today Emily and Amy attended their first Nonprofit Leadership Academy with Lee Charities in partnership with United Way of Baldwin County, Alabama

This is a 6-month program that invests in nonprofits throughout Baldwin County and provides leadership, education, and opportunities to grow.

Emily and Amy are investing in themselves and their leadership so they can continue investing in the future of South Baldwin Literacy Council. We want to learn from the BEST and bring that knowledge back to SBLC to help our organization continue to grow and make an even bigger impact in our community!

We are so excited for the next 6 months and all that we will learn along the way!

Happy Birthday to our amazing Emily! 🎉💛

Emily’s kindness, warmth, and contagious laughter make her the heart of our office—and probably our unofficial chief joy officer! 😄✨

She is a brave, resilient, and determined woman who became a teen mom, worked hard to build a beautiful life for her family, and earned her at GED right here at SBLC years ago. Her journey is an inspiring reminder that it’s never too late to chase your dreams, reach your goals, and celebrate every milestone along the way. 📚🌟

We are so grateful for everything Emily brings to our Literacy Council: her big heart, bright spirit, generous support, and the laughter she shares so freely. We feel incredibly lucky to work alongside her and call her our friend. ❤️
