MAD brought a village to the Beasts from the East Indoor Paddling Regatta-Boston hosted by .We are so proud of our baby dragons who represented the youth division and conquered it with medals to show for it. It's the year of the 🐉 after all, a rebirth of strength and power for the next generation to take over. This is only the beginning. ..
Special shoutout to and .e_man_ for doing the 2000m within seconds notice. Ya'll demonstrated sportsmanship and preserverence like no other. Congrats on for repping senior division and role modeling athleticism at any age. Many thanks for our coaches and cheerleaders who stopped by for support. 💯💥..

We were forty-six strong and ready to compete at GWN Mercer 2023. We practiced hard, we came hungry and for the first time, not one but two of our boats qualified to race in the 2K. We have excelled in mixed divisions before but the 2k invitation for our MAD Men and MADemoiselles at Mercer (where DB beasts from the Northeast* compete), was a testament that both our men and women were strong and resilient on their own.

Our MADemoiselles reflected after every heat and stayed consistent with our performance. We had a 2k crash course with Billy had faith in his expertise, trusted our pacers and believed in the power of our boat. We started that race in 12th place, held the fort, maintained our rhythm and grunted our way to the finish line, securing 11th, one place higher than we first started.

Our MAD men lined up 6th place going in first but we never finished [link to video below]. We found ourselves right heavy, supporting the weight of stranded paddlers gripping onto our boat after theirs just flipped. In this moment we were no longer competitors but fellow humans helping humans. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. We would never forget this, an experience that truly exemplified the pillars of the dragonboat community: comraderie and compassion. You have to have heart for your bretheren, even those that don't wear the same jerseys. And we did just that.

Congratulations to MAD for wrapping up this season with a BANG. Thank you for hosting the most exhiliterating and emotional event to date.

Two year ago, the pandemic rocked the dragon boat community and festivals came to a tumultuous halt. Now here we are, toe to toe, teeth clenched, ready for the adrenaline high of race-day 😤🔥. Thank you to our dragonboat brothers and sisters for fueling us with POWER 💥and ENERGY⚡ at . We took home not one, not two, but three 🥈 from our open and mixed boats, an attestation of our tenacity and triumph. Veterans and first-timers alike, together we conquered. Congratulations to all our paddlers on this heck of a weekend! A toast 🍻 to triple plaques.

MAD takes on in its annual end-of-the-year endurance piece. It was a picturesque day: ☀️ blaring, blue skies, and good vibes 🤙. With an all-veterans boat, we beat our own personal record of arriving there at 54 minutes, dead water ☠. Whitestone is about syncing with your mates, pushing each other to our limits, and not giving up until your partner has their . The journey was grueling but at least we had fun too! 🤪We got back in 46 minutes because *somebody* didn’t want to take a break 🙄

After a year on hiatus, MAD returns to take on Mercer . Faces change, friendships evolve, but our spirit of fierce athleticism and loyal camaraderie remains. We had a bit of race day jitters but we felt our groove on the boat, listened to each other, and re-focused ourselves to place first in our last heat of the day: 500m 🏅. For some of us, it was our first time at this festival; for many of us, it was our first race back since the pandemic rocked our dragonboat community. Shout out to , and for paddling with us. And we are so glad to see other representation from the East Coast show up too: , , , , , , , , , . Amazing race to all the teams, especially that 2k! 💯🚣‍♂️

Motivation gets you started but discipline keeps you going. Practice consistency, delay gratification, and repeat. Now let's crush this Monday.💥👊
