About Flushing Movies in the Park
Since 1996, Saturday nights in the summer have been the fun time for families and friends to enjoy a FREE movie at our Riverview Park recreation complex. A major motion picture is shown on a 24’ X 18’ screen located in our band shell. There is comfortable seating for 440 people, but many families bring their own lawn chairs and blankets as well. In 2007, the “Movi
es in the Park” program was officially renamed “Walt’s Walk-in Theater” to honor co-founder Walt Skidmore. In 2008, we were honored to be recognized as the “Outside Family Movie Capital of Michigan” Concessions are also available for each showing in the form of the “Teen Canteen”. Up until 2022, a refurbished 100-year-old barn was used until it was no longer viable to utilize. In the Summer of 2023 the new “Teen Canteen” opens in the former Tucker Pool Building, which is also where public restrooms are located. It is staffed by volunteers who are raising money to fund their respective groups or organizations. Hot popcorn, cold pop, water, slushies, ice cream, pickles, pretzels, cotton candy and snow cones are available at affordable prices! You may also bring a picnic basket and enjoy your own food and non-alcoholic refreshments while you watch the show. All movies start at dusk (no earlier than 9:00 PM). It is recommended that families arrive early if they want a good location in the grassy viewing area. The Flushing Children’s Fun Zone, basketball and tennis courts, are located in the park so the children can play first, then relax at the movie. The Movies in the Park Committee wants to thank all the families and sponsors for 27 great years. Sincerely, Flushing “Movies in the Park” Committee.
