TO: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Orchestra
I have some truly exciting news for you:
The Michigan Association of Broadcasters had a "Broadcast Excellence Awards" banquet in Lansing last night, and our dear friend Bill Harris and NBC25 swept the category of Special Interest Programming.
Both our "Patriotic Salute" concert from June 13, 2015 at McFarlan Park and "A Classy Brassy Christmas— and More" were entered, but Classy Brassy came out on top as BEST IN CATEGORY. In Bill's words, "Both programs were excellent, indeed. But the judges saw something special and/or unique in Classy that won them over!"
Hearty congratulations to Bill, everybody at NBC25, and to all of you who participated.
(I will attach a picture of the award)
TO: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Orchestra
Here is some exciting news about our Music in the Parks concerts this summer.
Once again there will be two that will involve the FSO:
• Sat June 25, at Crossroads Village: "A Patriotic Salute"
This concert will be broadcast live on NBC25, with our good buddy Bill Harris, and then edited somewhat for rebroadcast on or around July 4.
• Fri Aug 26, at Willson Park (on the UM- Flint Campus, across the street from the Flint Farmer's Market): "Chariots of Fire- A Crim Warm-up with the FSO"
As you may or may not be aware, the Crim Festival of Races is one of the preeminent running events in the nation, attracting thousands of runners from all over the globe (some elite Olympic contenders, and then some more humble like Bill Harris and myself...) The flagship race is the 10 mile on Saturday morning, but the Professional Michigan Mile runs will start and finish right around us on Friday evening (7:00 pm for women, 7:07 for men).
Once again, our dear friend David Mairs will be back to conduct both concerts, both of which will begin at 7:00 pm. I know for sure that the rehearsal for June 25 will be from 1:00-3:30, that same day, at FIM (and suspect a rather similar scenario for Aug 26...)
The other MITP concerts this summer will be "Bluegrass, Mariachi and all that Jazz" on Thur July 7 at Mott Park, and "Gospel Gathering: Celebrating the best of Flint" on Thur Aug 18 at Max Brandon Park.
