🎒🧡 PACKED WITH PURPOSE 💙🎒

The Amazin’ Mets Foundation partnered with our New York Mets colleagues and Delta Air Lines to support Foundation grantee New York Cares by packing backpacks filled with essential school supplies for local students.

Through New York Cares’ Stand with Students program, backpacks and school supply kits are distributed to students attending Title I schools across all five boroughs, helping ensure they have the tools they need to start the school year prepared and confident.

13,000 backpacks will reach students in Queens, the South Bronx, and East Harlem through a grant from the Amazin’ Mets Foundation. Together with New York Cares and Delta, we are proud to help provide critical educational resources to students and families across New York City.

🧡💙 COMMUNITY HERO: READ ALLIANCE 💙🧡

This September, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation was proud to recognize Read Alliance through our Community Hero Program, an initiative that highlights grantees making a lasting impact across our local communities during a Mets game at Citi Field.

Read Alliance works to accelerate the educational trajectory of early elementary students in under-resourced communities. The organization matches Teen Leaders, high school students who provide one-to-one literacy tutoring, with K–2 students to guide them through a structured, phonics-based curriculum that builds foundational reading skills and confidence.

With support from the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, Read Alliance will bring its Dual Impact Literacy and Teen Leadership Program to three schools in Queens. Through the program, K–2 students will receive more than 45 individualized tutoring sessions, while Teen Leaders gain paid work experience, professional development, leadership skills, and pathways to college and career success.

🧡💙 NEVER. EVER. GIVE UP. 💙🧡

In honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation teamed up with our New York Mets colleagues for a special volunteer event supporting Foundation grantee Jessie Rees Foundation (Team NEGU), a nonprofit dedicated to walking alongside families facing childhood cancer and bringing help and hope when they need it most.

Volunteers packed JoyJars filled with new toys and activities designed to help children actively fighting cancer smile and feel loved. With support from the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, Jessie Rees Foundation will provide hundreds of JoyJars to children in long-term care at hospitals throughout the tri-state area, helping bring comfort, connection, and joy to young patients and their families.

This August, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation was proud to recognize Girl Scouts of Greater New York's Troop 6000 through our Community Hero Program, an initiative that highlights grantees making a lasting impact across our local communities during a Mets game at Citi Field.

We welcomed Troop 6000 for a special pregame ceremony to celebrate its work supporting Girl Scouts and families living in temporary housing across New York City. Launched in 2017, Troop 6000 is a first-of-its-kind program that brings Girl Scouting directly to shelters across the city, giving girls the opportunity to make new friends, earn badges, build confidence, and see themselves as leaders.

Each year, Amazin’ Mets Foundation President Alex Cohen presents the Amazin’ Mets Foundation Legacy Award to a member of the baseball community whose impact drives meaningful change on and off the field.

This year’s recipient, professional baseball player Kelsie Whitmore, joined us at Citi Field for a special celebration of her career challenging expectations, expanding representation, and helping create a clearer, more visible pathway for girls and women in baseball ⚾

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at Kelsie’s visit to Citi Field, including throwing out the ceremonial pitch 🧡 In Kelsie’s honor, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation also awarded a $5,000 grant to NY Girls Baseball, a nonprofit helping grow the game and expand access to baseball for girls.

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, we honor the courage, sacrifice and resilience of the first responders who answered the call that day and who continue to carry its impact.

For the last four years, we’ve supported Foundation grantee America's VetDogs in training future service dogs for local veterans and first responders. In 2023, Shea, the first puppy supported through this partnership, was officially paired with NYPD first responder Richie Carter during a pregame ceremony at Citi Field.

Richie dedicated 20 years of service to the NYPD and spent more than 250 hours at Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks. A lifelong Mets fan, Richie’s story reflects the bravery and service we remember today.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Howie, a future service dog the Foundation is co-raising with grantee America's VetDogs, joined the New York Mets for a New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firehouse visit to honor first responders and their unwavering bravery and courage.

Alongside Mets alumni Todd Zeile, John Franco, Al Leiter, Robin Ventura, and David Wright, Howie spent time with firefighters and first responders as part of the Mets’ annual trip to local firehouses. The trips began in the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

Through the America’s VetDogs “Puppy With a Purpose” program, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation co-raises future service dogs for United States veterans or first responders.

We will forever honor the individuals lost on September 11, 2001, and will continue to support their families and all those impacted that day. We will never forget.

🏃‍♀️⚾ BIG STEPS, BIG MOMENTS AT CITI FIELD! ⚾🏃‍♂️

The Amazin’ Mets Foundation recently welcomed Mets on the Move students to Citi Field for a special pregame ceremony to celebrate each participating school’s top step leader! The student who logged the most steps was recognized on the field for their amazin’ commitment to staying active, reaching their goals, and stepping up to the challenge 🧡💙

Mets on the Move presented by Hospital for Special Surgery encourages students to set personal fitness goals, build healthy habits, and stay active through movement 👟 Each winning student received four field-level tickets 🎟️ and a $100 gift card to help celebrate their achievement.

Nearly 4,000 students participated in Mets on the Move 2026, logging more than 325 million total steps toward a healthier, more active future! Congratulations to every student who participated and helped knock this year’s challenge out of the park ⚾🧡💙

⚾ ALL IN FOR ACCESS TO PLAY ⚾

We recently welcomed grantee Good Sports and local kids to Citi Field for a special Junior Mets Clinic focused on making sure athletes of all abilities have the gear and support they need to pursue their love of the game.

Participants took part in skill-building activities, experienced the excitement of playing at the home of the New York Mets, and enjoyed a special visit from Mr. Met! 🧡💙 The clinic helped athletes develop their game in a supportive environment while celebrating the confidence, connection, and sense of belonging that sports can create.

As a part of the Foundation’s support for Good Sports, the clinic removes barriers to play by making sure athletes have the gear they need to take the field. With a grant from the Foundation, Good Sports also donates equipment and gear for baseball, softball, and tee-ball opportunities at local organizations and leagues that offer adaptive sports programming.

🫐🫑 🍎 FARM FRESH AND STUDENT LED 🍎🫑🫐

Students at Pelham Lab High School in the Bronx recently launched a farmstand to bring fresh, local food directly to their community through Foundation grantee GrowNYC's Farmstand Business Curriculum.

With support from the Amazin’ Mets Foundation to access GrowNYC’s curriculum this spring, students are continuing their exploration of food access in their community. Through a 12 lesson, standards aligned program, students examine their school’s growing capacity, think critically about neighborhood needs, and design a real world food access point that expands healthy options in their own backyard.

Through the program, students turn classroom learning into real world action, taking ownership of a food access point that extends fresh food from local farmers and their school’s own garden to neighbors throughout the Bronx 🧡💙
