Floyd JAMS - A Junior Appalachian Musicians Program

Floyd JAMS is a June Bug Center after school program that introduces children to traditional music. Our program is based on many successful JAM programs in the Carolinas and Virginias. A group of traditional musicians and music educators has come together to provide this opportunity to 3rd through 12th graders. JAMs is held Mondays after school

at The June Bug Center from 3:30 to 5:30. The program provides access to the joy of music while instilling interest and pride in their heritage. Students borrow a fiddle, banjo, or guitar free of charge to learn traditional tunes of this region. They learn how to play in a group environment with other musicians. Enrichment is offered when available for students to learn more about traditional music, instruments, and dancing. Our goal is for you to learn about Floyd JAMS, follow our progress, attend our concerts, and offer your support! At Floyd JAM, students learn fiddle, guitar, or banjo in a fun and supportive environment rooted in traditional Appalachian music. Instruments are included with enrollment, and campers get hands-on experience performing with others throughout the week.

Whether they’re brand new or already musical, Floyd JAM is all about learning, collaborating, and having fun through music.
