Mountain Valor Veteran Services Empowering veterans and their families every day across rural Virginia.

Poor David. Our lovable, furry Fundraising Director has sky-rocketed our carrot budget. Thankfully, our supporters have been far more productive than David, and we're grateful for every donation that's helping us move closer to our goal.

As we head into Week 2 of the Give Local fundraising drive, Mountain Valor's goal is to raise $10,000 to support local veterans. We're the only nonprofit in our region dedicated exclusively to serving rural veterans, where isolation, transportation challenges, and limited access to resources often create the greatest need.

In 2025 alone, Mountain Valor helped more than 1,200 people in person across rural Virginia through outreach, education, and connection. Even a small donation makes a difference. For example, just $50 sponsors a coffee social that brings veterans together for camaraderie and access to resources.

Unfortunately, David has consumed more campaign resources than he's raised in donations, so it may be time to expand our search for qualified candidates. The goat has already expressed interest in the position, but we're not sure he's the GOAT of fundraising.

Do you think the goat deserves a shot, or would Mama G oose be a better choice?

Stay tuned for our next episode to find out who gets the opportunity to lead Mountain Valor's fundraising efforts. And if you'd like to help us reach our $10,000 goal, visit www.MtnValor.org to donate.

Our new Fundraising Director may be charming, but his campaign strategy is... well, we'd love to know what YOU think of David!

David has plenty of confidence, but we're not sure about his fundraising plan for this month's Give Local fundraiser.

If you'd like to help us reach our $10,000 goal to help local veterans, David (and the rest of us at Mountain Valor) would be grateful for a donation of any amount. Visit: www.MtnValor.org to contribute.

In our next episode of this video series, we'll find out whether David is finally ready to take his fundraising responsibilities seriously.

Vets and families of Vets, tomorrow is our first Floyd Coffee and Donut meet up. Swing by the Floyd Rec Park picnic shelter Saturday morning for coffee, donuts, and fun conversation. Looking forward to seeing you there - and bring the kids who have all the extra summertime energy to burn off!

This event is free for veterans and their families.

I want you to meet Mountain Valor's new Fundraising Director!

Since our goal is to raise $10,000 for this month's Give Local fundraising drive, I'm hoping David might be a good asset to our team...but I'm already having my doubts.

Do you think David can help us meet our goal?

Thank you to my friend, Lisa Crowell, with FireBrand Media - Virginia for filming David's debut.

Stay tuned to watch Episode #2 of this video series for David's campaign strategies, and check out www.mtnvalor.org if you can help.

A veteran’s spouse doesn’t know where to turn. Her husband passed last year. She’s dealing with a fixed income, an aging home, and no idea what she qualifies for — or who to call.

She’s not alone, and she doesn’t have to figure it out by herself.

Tomorrow, GiveLocal early giving opens — and Mountain Valor is in it to win it this year.
Last year we raised $2,000. Almost all of it came from people who already knew us and already believed in us.
This year our goal is $10,000. Here’s why that number matters:
$50 funds a veteran coffee social — veterans in a room, connected, not isolated. $10,000 means 200 of those moments. Two hundred times someone who served doesn’t spend the day alone.
We serve veterans across seven counties in rural western Virginia. Benefits navigation, community outreach, senior living visits, digital resources — all free, every time. But none of it happens without community support.
GiveLocal early giving opens June 1. Giving Day is noon June 24 through noon June 25 — and every online donation is eligible for Golden Ticket prize drawings worth $250. Donate on Giving Day and we’re also in the running for Most Unique Donors — which means every single gift counts, no matter the size.
$50. One coffee social. Real impact.

Today we remember.
Memorial Day began in the years after the Civil War, when communities across the country started gathering at graves to honor soldiers who died in the conflict. Originally called Decoration Day, it was first widely observed on May 30, 1868, when General John Logan called for a national day of remembrance for Union soldiers. In the years that followed the tradition grew.
After World War I, the day expanded to honor all Americans who died in war. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a federal holiday, moving it to the last Monday of May.
More than 1.1 million Americans have died in this country's wars since the Revolution. They are not a statistic. They are people who had families, plans, and futures they did not get to keep.
Take a moment today to remember why the day exists. Say a name if you know one.
