From "Dirt to Dinner" had a wonderful first class!
Our ANR Agent Jon Vest led a hands-on demonstration using cereal to show why it is important to not overwork or over till your garden soil. Youth also learned how often to water plants, how much water they need, and how to fertilize properly.
We explored the Extension office grounds to discover which locations would make a great garden spot and which would not. Along the way, participants got their hands dirty exploring the soil, finding grubs and worms living underground while learning which creatures help our gardens grow and which ones can cause problems for growing plants.
A big thank you to Jon for sharing his knowledge and making learning fun and interactive.
We are already looking forward to our next class in the series, "From Garden to Kitchen" on July 29th with our FCS Agent, Dawn Barnes. Participants will learn about nutrition, healthy cooking, and finish the class by making stuffed tomatoes and veggie wraps!
