Fairs- Foundation for Amateur International Radio Service FAIRS focuses on promoting goodwill and building global friendship through amateur radio. To learn m The date was May 9th, 1991. This sparked the name “59 Group”.

FAIRS was created as an idea during a train trip from Moscow to the Western Ukraine. There were five Americans David KK4WW and Gaynell KD4GMV (now KK4WWW) Larsen, Bob W6YMR and Virginia KD6- NBW Friebertshauser, and John Douglas N0ISL) and host Victor Goncharsky US5- WE. We visited to set up/ distribute donated equipment in Russia and Ukraine. It seemed that a formal group was needed to do this ty

pe of volunteer work in an organized way on a regular basis. Today, FAIRS continues in its mission of promoting goodwill through amateur radio:

By providing equipment, funds and training for amateurs & governments in less fortunate countries, arranging exchange visits, partnering with groups & individuals to provide radios, medical assistance & other services. We transport medicine, supplies, and relief aid to various areas in need, and network with individuals throughout the world who manage project activities on a volunteer basis. We provide support & training, plus education for students, interns in our area. We give motivational support in radio gatherings held several times a week.

THIS SATURDAY, 5-9, we will celebrate the 35th Anniversary of FAIRS Founding. It was created as an idea during a train trip from Moscow to western Ukraine. Learn more at www.fairs.org

Our membership foundation still accomplishes disaster preparedness and relief projects. International and local goodwill is promoted through amateur radio.

In this video, Executive Director is operating FAIRS station N4USA and making contact with KO4USA. Both "USA" calls and the exchange was a strong and readable 5-9!

FAIRS joins Business and Professional Women of Dominica in applauding Gloria Walsh. It's been a pleasure for FAIRS to support Gloria in the youth after-school and feeding program through the years. This is the post BPW shared upon her recent recognition as a 2026 awardee.

Goria Walsh is widely known as "Miss Walsh and Lioness," is a phenomenal community advocate who has dedicated over two decades to uplifting vulnerable populations in Dominica, particularly within Silver Lake and Bath Estate. As the Founder and Director of the Love One Teach One Foundation, Inc. since 2005, she has transformed lives through essential initiatives such as her signature lunch and after-school programs. Her holistic approach to community building is evidenced by her collaboration with international and local partners—including the US Peace Corps and the Bureau of Gender Affairs—to implement diverse programs ranging from youth empowerment camps and parenting workshops to crisis recovery and disaster management.
A Decorated Leader and Global Advocate
Beyond her grassroots work, Miss Walsh is a highly respected leader whose contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including the CIBC Unsung Hero award and the Phenomenal Caribbean Woman recognition. Her influence extends to governance and global volunteerism, serving as Board Member for Operation Youth Quake and as the Dominica Leader for the global Good Deeds Day movement. Currently serving over 300 individuals, her tireless advocacy against domestic violence and her 10-year tenure as a Disaster Shelter Manager underscore her role as a cornerstone of Dominican society. Her unwavering commitment continues to be a source of inspiration and a catalyst for positive change across the island.

5 wardrobe boxes packed with donated supplies left Floyd Virginia this morning en route to Dominica in the Eastern Caribbean. Ron, a volunteer from Floyd United Methodist Church, will drive the load to Washington, DC for shipping service by Caribbean Cargo. FAIRS director Gaynell Larsen has been collecting critical supplies such as diabetic testing strips and meters, Depends undergarments, bed pads, clothing, and shoes to send to recipients in the island nation. Angels in the Attic, a Floyd-based non-profit, donated some of the supplies for which we are thankful. The shipment is expected to arrive at its destination in a few weeks.
