Last week we were honored to welcome Senator Drew Echols to South Hall Rotary; where he shared valuable updates on economic development and key legislative efforts impacting Georgia communities.

Senator Echols spoke about his transition from floor leader to chairmanship. He also highlighted his work in the Appropriations Committee and discussed several important initiatives, including a $425 million mental health facility planned for Atlanta, as wells as $45 million dedicated to addressing homelessness.

He also shared exciting news about the passage of a literacy bill to place literacy coaches in every elementary school and provide additional resources for teachers.

Today at South Hall Rotary, we were inspired by two outstanding student presentations! ☀️

We heard from Ruby Shaughnessy, a sophomore from Cherokee Bluff High School, who was the essay winner of the Georgia Rotary Clubs Laws of Life Contest. 📝👏

We also enjoyed a presentation from our GRSP student, Laerka “Lark” Juul Kristenson, who shared about her year in Georgia so far Lark is from Denmark, studies at Georgia Gwinnett College and hosted by the Walsh family. We loved hearing about her experiences and the impact of this year’s cultural exchange program. 💙💛💙

On April 22, 2026, South Hall Rotary Club had a fantastic visit to Vulcan Materials Company, where we got a behind-the-scenes look at one of the nation’s leading producers of construction aggregates.

From learning about the scale of their operations to understanding how essential materials like crushed stone, sand, and gravel support our growing communities, it was an eye-opening experience. We also appreciated the opportunity to hear about their commitment to safety, sustainability, and community involvement right here in South Hall.

March 25, 2026, members of South Hall Rotary had the opportunity to visit the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, and what an inspiring experience it was!

We saw firsthand the incredible impact they are making in our community—providing food, hope, and support to families in need across North Georgia. From dedicated volunteers to efficient operations, it’s clear this organization is changing lives every single day.
