“My name is Stephanie, and my daughter Maylene was stillborn on May 22, 2023, at 40 weeks 1 day. She is my fifth child, and my pregnancy was completely normal. The morning after her due date I woke up suddenly because I didn’t feel her moving at all. She had done her kicks the night before, and everything felt normal when I went to bed.

My husband took me to the hospital where they looked for 20 minutes for the heartbeat. As soon as my midwife put the wand to my belly she saw my daughter was gone. Her cord had ruptured from her placenta, and she died instantly. I was rushed for an emergency C-section, and my daughter arrived, just so perfect and ready for life. She was 8 lbs. 1 oz. and 19 in. We didn’t know she was a girl until after she had died and was delivered. We love and miss her so much!”

We wanted to share a meaningful photo with you: this is Nicole’s dresser, where she keeps some photos and keepsakes of Evan. In front of those special items, Nicole was gathering donations for Evan’s Box. A very missed boy and his legacy. 💙👣

“My husband and I found out I was pregnant in November. We were so excited. We planned on telling everyone on Christmas. I kept having pain in weird places. Doctors took my hcg levels consistently. Finally, a week or so later, I found out my levels weren’t high enough. They weren’t doubling, slowing rising. Doctors told me to expect the worst. The worst happened. I’m not sure why my first baby passed. I conceived shortly after my miscarriage. Now I’m in my second pregnancy. I pray this will work out.”

Hoping this serves as a little inspiration today: as you all know, Nicole is an excellent crocheter, all her things are so beautiful, but recently she’s been working to perfect her sewing skills as well. Look at these beautiful wraps she recently sewed! Aren’t they beautiful? I especially love the spring colors! It’s always fun to try something new! 🌸☀️

Blessedly, we have never received a comment like this (that I’m aware of) here on Instagram. Unfortunately, however, we do receive comments like this via other platforms. We want to address this.

Yes, to put it bluntly, if your child is born between 12 and 22 weeks gestation, your child is no longer living. That is probably not something anyone — especially a mother, father, or family in this situation — needs to be told. But those babies are someone’s child. They are someone’s sibling, grandchild, friend, or neighbor. Speaking as a mother, the moment you find out there’s a life inside you, you immediately begin to dream of who that child will be, what he or she will be like. They are as real as any other child. When a family experiences a pregnancy loss, the absolute worst thing that can happen is for that loss to be disregarded and discounted. We hear those stories all the time, too. At Evan’s Box, we want to help honor the grief of these families and help support them by acknowledging that their loss is real.

We are always happy to answer genuine, thoughtful questions. If Evan’s Box isn’t for you or makes no sense to you, just keep scrolling. 💙👣

“On June 25, exactly a month after my five-week loss, I got another positive pregnancy test. I was so scared but overcome with joy that we were welcoming another baby. I started progesterone immediately and even scheduled an ultrasound to confirm a heartbeat. I saw our sweet baby’s heart flickering July 7. I just couldn’t believe it. We were excited to come back on July 17 to officially hear our baby’s heart beating. On July 22, during my dating scan, I should have been 8+3 weeks, but the baby was only measuring 7+3, which is completely normal, and there were no concerns. Everything looked perfect on the ultrasound except for a small subchorionic hemorrhage, but with its size, it was not expected to cause any problems. On August 13, I saw our sweet bouncy baby with a heart beating at 163 beats per minute, and I had the NIPT test done. By August 21, the results came back, indicating our baby was low risk for the genetic abnormalities they tested for. I opted to let a friend know the gender so she could surprise me later, or I would find out at birth since I was undecided about being team green.

However, on August 30, I noticed a bit of spotting, so I decided to order a Doppler to ease my mind, even though the doctors were not concerned. The Doppler finally arrived September 6, and I heard our sweet baby’s heartbeat again! The next day, my daughter wanted to hear the baby, so I pulled out the Doppler and found the baby with no problems. She said, ‘Ooh, I hear it. It sounds so good!’ I tried to find the baby again over the next two days with no luck, but that can be normal as the baby is still small. I was having more spotting and bad cramping, so I left a message for the doctor’s office on Tuesday morning, asking to be seen sooner for my peace of mind. However, the nurse called back on Wednesday and reassured me that everything was fine and all my worries were normal pregnancy symptoms …”
