**ATTENTION**ALERT***CALL TO ACTION**HELP NEEDED**
ATTENTION QW Neighbors: The City of Oakwood is threatening to once again disrupt our quaint way of life by lowering our property values, add to the already increased traffic flow on Martin Road, overload our maxed out schools, and burdening us with all the elements we moved here to escape.
Here is what is happening. A new subdivision is proposed less than 1/4 mile from the entrance of our beautiful estate homes. This proposal would cram more than 2 homes per acre and would give us more of that Gwinett county feel. Many who have been here for a while understand that the City of Oakwood has never met an apartment complex or a fast food restaurant that they didn't like. In addition, they are Annex happy and want every parcel they can acquire. It's as if they are adhering to a federal proposal to eliminate single-family zoning through the AFFH rule. This rule would essentially be a federal takeover of local zoning and force suburban towns with single-family homes and minimum lot sizes to build high-density affordable housing smack in the middle of their leafy neighborhoods — local preferences and local control be damned. STAND UP NOW!
Where New subdivision is proposed:
A 45-lot subdivision, on 24 acres is proposed off Martin Road
between Quailwood and Martin’s Crossing subdivisions in South Hall.
OAKWOOD CITY COUNCIL SECOND MEETING
WHAT: ATTEND THIS MEETING AND BE HEARD!
WHY: Another high-density residential development is planned, just around the corner. Fast-paced process – we’re joining the process late.
- If the project is approved it could significantly decrease our property value
- Would also Increase: Traffic, School students, Environmental impact, infrastructure impact, and CRIME
- Original, approved plan has this property in Hall County with NINE houses max to be built
- BUT, The proposal is to annex the property to Oakwood, and build NINETY (90) houses on less than 30 acres, much of which is streams and unbuildable.
- The Planning board is recommending “only” FORTY FIVE (45) houses. Still 5 times more than Hall County approved. (It was only approved for 9 houses)
