Remember those old cartoons: someone would roll a tiny snowball down a mountain and by the time it reached the bottom, it was massive—bowling over everything in its path.
That’s momentum.

The lesson? Don’t focus on the whole mountain. Don’t even focus on trying to make a huge snowball. Start small.

👉 Want to get better at going to the gym? Don’t stress about the weights—just focus on showing up.
👉 Want to finish all your work on time? Don’t think about the entire project—just break it into little chunks and start with one.
👉 Want to overcome your fear of public speaking and grow into an amazing communicator? Don’t think about the whole journey—just show up to one local Toastmasters meeting.

There, you’ll find people just as invested in helping you reach your goals as you are.

So, what’s keeping you from turning that tiny question—
“Should I join Toastmasters?”
into a resounding “YES!”

Start small. Build momentum. And when you look back, you’ll realize you’ve conquered the whole mountain.

What do you enjoy daily? Your cell phone, TV, car, computer, comfy shoes—maybe all of the above.

Think about it: what do these innovations have in common? Their creators stared failure in the face again and again... yet they never quit.

So, here’s a question for you: If bringing a TV, car, or cell phone from idea to reality depended on you, would you have the mental fortitude to see it through? Would you push forward through failure after failure until the world could benefit from your gift?

Maybe we misunderstand failure. We often react with disappointment. We quit. But what if those inventors had given up?

Consider Thomas Edison, who tried to invent the light bulb countless times. When asked about failing thousands of times, he replied:

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won’t work."

Failure isn’t an endpoint—it’s a step forward, a lesson, a discovery that gets us closer to bringing our dreams to life.

Many come to Toastmasters with a dream of becoming dynamic speakers. The ones who reach it are those who shape their message through feedback, enduring the stumbles until they shine.

There’s no secret formula, no multiple paths, no “born gifted” mystique. There’s just a dream, one path—and someone willing to learn, grow, and persevere.

Sure, it doesn't always feel good -but don't let fear or failure stop your potential. Join Toastmasters and fail (learn) as many times as you need to—your voice could be a gift to the world.

Do you know your speaking style?

Are you an Initiator, someone who warms up a gathering with a story—or maybe mingles through the crowd to connect first?

Maybe you’re Supportive—patient, calm, and relaxed—preferring a no-pressure environment everyone feels comfortable in.

Or you might be Direct—decisive, confident, goal‑oriented. You get to the point and drive toward results.

Perhaps you're Analytical—precise, logical, “just‑the‑facts‑ma’am”—focusing on the details to build your case.

To be a true master speaker, it’s not just about owning your natural style—it’s being able to "float" between styles depending on your audience. If your goal is to motivate, persuade, or inform, half the battle is how you deliver your message. Stories might inspire, but data drives. Figures may enlighten—but warmth wins hearts.

Discover your style and practice becoming a master Toastmaster at your local chapter. A powerful speech is made up of your voice, your body language, and the right words for the right audience.

Last week’s meeting was amazing! It was all about body language.
What does your body say before you ever speak a word?
During Table Topics, speakers shared personal stories—some happy, some sad, some exciting—but with opposite body language. A joyful story told with angry gestures… a heartbreaking story delivered with a smile. The result? Eye-opening.
We saw firsthand how a simple shift in body language can change the entire meaning and feel of your message. It reminded us that communication starts before the first word is ever spoken.
Whether you're giving a speech, walking into a meeting, or catching up with friends—check your body language first.
Because your body speaks... long before you do.

One of the biggest fears people face? Public speaking.

This week, Ryan took a huge step forward by delivering his very first speech — known in Toastmasters as the Ice Breaker!

The Ice Breaker is a short, simple speech that gives your audience a glimpse into who you are — and more importantly, it's the first step toward building confidence as a speaker.

👏 Great job, Ryan!
We’re excited to watch you grow and excel at Flower Mound Toastmasters.

Confident Cues = Confident Communication

Want to look and feel more confident when speaking?
According to Cues by Vanessa Van Edwards, using warm cues (like a genuine smile and head nod) along with power cues (like keeping your hands visible and using deliberate gestures) makes your message more trustworthy and engaging.

🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from Flower Mound Toastmasters! 🎆

248 years ago, on July 4th, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence — a bold document that didn't just declare freedom from British rule, but gave voice to a new vision of liberty, equality, and self-governance.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident...”

Those words sparked a revolution — not only through muskets and marches, but through the power of persuasive speech and the courage to speak up for what’s right.

At Toastmasters, we believe in the same spirit — that your voice matters, that leadership starts with communication, and that your ideas can shape history when spoken with conviction.

This Independence Day, let’s remember:

The courage it takes to speak up.
The power of a well-crafted message.
And the freedom we celebrate every time we raise our voices with clarity and purpose.

Whether you’re preparing a speech, leading your team, or toasting to freedom — may today remind us that words have power.

💥 Happy 4th of July from your friends at Flower Mound Toastmasters!

And You May Now K.I.S.S. the Wedding Speech
(The best advice for giving a wedding toast? Keep. It. Simple. Silly.)

There’s no need to overthink it. When in doubt, speak from the heart and follow these steps to craft a meaningful and memorable toast:

Keep it short and sweet.
Aim for 2–3 minutes. Leave them smiling, not checking their watches.
Start with a heartwarming story.
Share a moment that’s touching, funny (but not embarrassing), or insightful.
Speak from the heart.
Don’t try too hard to be funny—authenticity always resonates more.
Celebrate both partners.
Remember, it’s their day. Make sure both feel seen and appreciated.
End with a toast.
Raise your glass and leave the room with something to cheer to.

A Simple Template to Follow:
Introduce yourself.
-Share your name and how you know the couple.
Tell a story.
-Reflect on what the person was like before they met their partner—or what changed after they did. Highlight something meaningful.
Point out the transformation.
-What did love bring out in them? How did the relationship shape them?
Tie in both partners.
-If you have a story about the couple together, even better. If not, find a way to bring both into your words.
End with a toast.
-“To [Bride] and [Groom]—may your marriage be a shining light to all who behold it.”

Want to Add a Touch of Class?
“Salud, amor y tiempo para disfrutarlo.”
(“To health, love, and time to enjoy it.” – Spanish)
Or:
“À votre bonheur.”
(“To your happiness.” – French)

Cheers!
