Kwesi's story:
Pineoblastoma.....a rare malignant brain tumor which arises from the cells of the pineal gland which sits near the center of the head and brain...
The words that forever changed our lives. On March 22, 2010 I took Kwesi for an MRI because he was nauseated and having headaches. The pediatrician thought he was suffering from migraines but ordered an MRI just to be able to rule other
things out. I NEVER thought, in a million years, that something would be found in the MRI scans. After our MRI appointment, we went to one of our favorite places, St. I dropped Kwesi off at home to run a few errands and that's when the call came from the pediatrician saying that he had bad news....a mass had been found in Kwesi's brain and it looked to have spread to his cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Devastation doesn't begin to describe what I felt. We went to St. Louis Children's Hospital where Kwesi was admitted and had brain surgery two days later....endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) and a biopsy was taken of the tumor. On March 30th we found out that it was a malignant tumor called pineoblastoma. Kwesi went into remission in September of 2010 but relapsed January 2012, remission again in 2012 just to relapse yet again in 2013. Kwesi passed away April, 28, 2014
