Ike our Dutch warmblood gelding was adopted and starts his new life with Jan today. She was the first to come see him and they are a fine match!
Thank you Fran Eddy for pointing Jan towards Ike and for always keeping our rescue on your radar.

Meet Fiona and Houston folks!

Fiona, in English tack and white wraps, is a 19-year-old imported warmblood mare who has been a jumper, a lesson horse, and a broodmare. She is well schooled, kind, very sweet to handle, and needs an easier life. She also goes in Western tack.

Houston is the 21-year-old gentleman in Western tack. He, too, is a warmblood, schooled in dressage, is a safe riding and trail mount for almost anyone to ride.

Both quality horses who certainly deserve a family of their own.

PM Yvonne Barteau for more.

Early mornings and late nights for the crew here at HWH and KYB!
Proud of my dedicated staff and volunteers who all love the horses as much as I do. We are away at a National Championship having much fun and success. Our theater performances are Friday and Saturday as part of the Iberian Spectacular here at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala.
Nice to have the perspective of both sides of the spectrum. Show horses or rescues are not that different. Just how you spend your days.

Good morning folks!
Yvonne here. Been away at a few shows earning my keep but i get updates as you all do. This morning when Lars and Olivia were doing early rounds and checking the herd they reported some weepage on sweet Thunders eye. They called and we decided a warm compress softly held for a few minutes would be best and then some ointment till we reach vet.
However that is not the main reason for post.
This is another one folks. A kind sweet grateful soul like Shadow. A mare who has had it bad enough, for long enough, that all she has gone through seems worth it to her to have loving care now. She is a lovely individual through and through.

So go ahead and fall in love with her too!

We all already are!
Cheers!
Will send updates from show!

We are a rescue filled with horse lovers!
Here is an example!

A very special thank you to some very special supporters of ours. Jenifer, Bethany and Lilly Ogilvie sent shadow a package with treats, blankets and some very shiny hoof polish. Everyone on the team and Shadow are all so grateful for all of your continued support, your contributions allow us to continue to help horses in need.

The necessary kindness.

Sweet old Jessie

A crypt orchid stallion in his 20’s who came to is some months ago had to be transferred to clinic for euthanasia this morning.

This was one who came in with virtually no chance at adoption.

But he was a kind sweet soul. We know surgeries are not an option for a horse like him but it is still hard to make that call. No vet was free to come to farm so Eva and I transported him with some calming meds on board. He was already on his max dose of banamine.

These persistent colics with an aged horse are usually signs of underlying issues that we almost never have the funds to resolve or figure out.

That is part of the heartache of running a rescue. Saying goodbye, not being able to save them all, keeping moral up amongst our staff and volunteers and the never ending fund raising which makes me personally uncomfortable.

Just this trip will be close to a thousand dollars to euthanize and bury sweet Jessie. If you would like to help with Jessie’s final expenses,

He did know love and good care for the six months we had him. A peaceful ending is that final kindness. Not all our stories have happy endings.

Better days ahead,
Yvonne

Can you help us with Payton? This lovely mare is being transported from South Florida to our farm this week. As you all know, intake costs and transportation are expensive and the owner who surrendered her has fallen on very hard times.

Payton is a very much loved and cared for thoroughbred. Her owner developed cancer and spent her life savings on her treatments. She must now return to the UK in an attempt to further her medical care. Sadly, she must let go of her precious mount in order to do that. She has chosen to surrender Payton to the rescue so that we can find this wonderful mare a new home with a loving family.

But we needed to get her here first.

In order to ease the broken heart of the owner and not deplete our humble reserves, can you help us to cover the costs of intake or even do a sponsorship for a month or longer to get this girl off on the right foot?

Every donation to our organization helps to cover rescue costs and expenses like veterinary care, dental care, feed, housing, fuel for our equipment, transportation and a myriad of other things that keep us up and running.

Please consider a small tax deductible donation today.

Hay days!!!

Unloading hay is best done in groups! Happy hardworking folks showed up to help us tackle this mountain of hay from Wyoming!
Many hands made light work and i can smile knowing the horses will eat good. Even if the grass is drying up as I type!
