New World Screwworm Update

This communication is intended to provide an update on the recent New World Screwworm situation and any potential impact it may have on the TJSSA State Futurity. At this time, only warm-blooded animals located in Zavala County, Texas, are under quarantine. The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) has not issued any statewide requirements for health papers on cattle traveling within Texas.

While there are no additional requirements in place at this time, we do not know if or when TAHC may implement new travel regulations or require health papers for cattle movement. You may wish to obtain health papers now to stay ahead of any potential changes and avoid last-minute complications; however, the TJSSA is not currently requiring health papers. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as soon as more information is available.

Volunteer opportunities include helping and monitoring during quizzes, sales talk, public speaking, and livestock judging. We also need help in the hospitality room.

Attention TJSSA Members - Info about our Community Service Project

TJSSA members are asked to donate unopened bags of quality dog or cat food to the State Show in support of the Brazos County Animal Shelter (Aggieland Humane Society), which is located near the Brazos Expo Center.

Moving into the Spring and Summer, the shelter sees a lot of young kittens and puppies, so they are always in need of kitten and puppy formula or milk replacer as well. Donations of grain free food are also needed for animals.

Dog Treats: Milk Bones, Beggin’ Strips, Training Treats
Canned Dog Food

Bring your donations with you to the show or you may make a monetary donation at registration that will be used to buy food for the animal shelter. See you soon!
