❤️ MAVERICK HAS BEEN ADOPTED ❤️
His new parents Susie Koenig 🌹 are experienced, loving pet owners who have welcomed rescued animals into their hearts and home throughout their lives. After recently losing their beloved dog, they were ready to open their home to another furry family member—and they chose Maverick!
They first met him after seeing his story, then returned this morning to make his adoption official. Following his medical and behavioral check-up, Maverick was ready to begin his new life with his loving family.
He now has a loving home, and parents who understand that patience, kindness and time will help him settle in. They already bought him his first new toy to snuggle with. ❤️
We truly believe Maverick has found his happily ever after. To everyone who called, messaged, visited and sent love his way, THANK YOU! Your kindness has meant so much to us.

💔🐾 THREE YEARS AGO, HE FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME. TODAY, HE LOST IT.
Some days at Wilson County Adoption & Rescue are just heartbreaking. Today was one of those days.
Three years ago, a sweet 9-week-old puppy left WCARS with his new family, along with his sibling. We believed he was beginning the happy life every rescue dog deserves.
Today, three years later, he was returned to us.
He lost the only home he’s ever known, the family he loved, and the sibling who had been by his side.
When his owner brought him back this morning, he was terrified. Shaking, frightened and confused. Now he’s in a kennel, howling, not understanding where his family went or why he’s suddenly alone.
If only we could explain it to him. 💔
In rescue, some call these returns “bounce backs.” But there’s nothing simple about the emotional trauma a dog can experience when everything familiar suddenly disappears.
Today, we’re sad, angry and frustrated. But more than anything, our hearts hurt for this sweet boy.
We work so hard to find loving, permanent homes for our animals. When we say forever home, we mean FOREVER. We understand that genuine life crises happen, but we wish everyone could see what happens to these animals after their families walk away.
For now, our job is to pick up the pieces and help this little guy feel safe again. We’ll arrange for him to see our veterinarian and give him the love, patience and reassurance he needs to recover emotionally.
He’s an absolute cutie, and when he’s ready, we’ll begin looking for another family. Hopefully, this time, forever really will mean forever.
These are hard days for our staff, volunteers and board members as we struggle with the growing number of surrendered and returned pets.
But as difficult as today is for us, it’s so much harder for the dog sitting alone in that kennel, wondering where his family went.
Please keep this sweet boy and the people caring for him in your thoughts and prayers.
He may have lost the only home he’s ever known, but he hasn’t lost the people willing to love him. ❤️🐾
