Florence Oregon Ham Radio Club

Florence Oregon Ham Radio Club The Central Oregon Coast Amateur Radio Club (COCARC) was incorporated in Oregon on March 7, 1985. AMS means they can be operated either by Digital or Analog FM.

It established to foster emergency preparedness in the local communities & to promote & advocate amateur radio through education, mentoring, & fellowship. The Central Oregon Coast Amateur Radio Club has nearly 100 members, most of whom live in the Florence area. However, we do have out-of-state members; many of these are regular summer visitors who enjoy our mild climate on the coast of Oregon and

join us for our fun activities. The Club was established to foster emergency preparedness in the local communities and to promote and advocate amateur radio through education, mentoring, and fellowship. We have an active ARES organization with a membership of over a dozen full and associate members, led by our EC, Chris N7GYL. Our 2-meter repeater is a Kenwood TKR-750 on 146.800 MHz with a PL of 100.0 Hz, and our Digital UHF repeater is a Yaesu DR2-X on 442.575 MHz, with a DCS tone of 125, in AMS mode. We also have a Digital UHF DR2-X on Glenada Hill on 441.100 MHz, across the river, at 800 ft elevation. It is in AMS mode with DCS tone of 125 and connected to Wires-X. The Glenada repeater is also linked to repeaters in Coos Bay and Eugene via IMRS. This is done digitally via Yaesu C4FM radios using the GM function. The first two repeaters are located on Herman Peak, 11 miles NNW of Florence at an elevation of 2000 feet. All repeaters are open to all Amateurs. We have Winlink packet Digi on Herman Peak W7FLO-2 144.950 MHz. We also support a VaraFM RMS W7FLO-9 at 144.970 MHz on Glenada Hill, with a VaraFM Digi W7FLO-1 at 144.970 MHz on Herman Peak. This Digi gives access to the Glenada VaraFM RMS from points up and down the coast as well as the Willamette Valley. Major improvements and changes to the system have occurred in 2009 such as a completely new radio vault, a new 180' self-supporting tower, and a new Cummins-Onan 60KW backup generator and building with a 400 AH AGM battery bank to keep everything online during possible power outages. Although we call our group the "Central Oregon Coast Amateur Radio Club", our corporate name is "Oregon Coast Emergency Repeater, Inc" a 501 c3 nonprofit corporation. Our Coffee Klatch is currently Wednesday Mornings at 8:00am Fresh Harvest Café · 3056 Highway 101, Florence, OR 97439. Visitors are Welcome. Wednesday Night Net 146.800 MHz (tone100) 7:00pm, also via our Echolink node #612184 All members and visitors are welcome to check in. With unseasonably hot and dry conditions in western Oregon, Siuslaw National Forest officials have raised fire danger from ‘low’ to ‘moderate’. Human-caused wildfires remain the leading wildfire threat on National Forest lands. Visitors and local communities are urged to take extra precautions.

Keep National Forest lands safe by following these fire prevention tips:

🔥Never leave a campfire unattended and fully extinguish it until cold to the touch.
🔥Maintain small campfires and avoid overhanging branches and limbs.
🔥Keep vehicles off dry vegetation.
🔥Ensure motorized equipment has proper spark arresters.
🔥Properly dispose of cigarette butts or other flammable materials.
🔥Secure trailer chains to prevent dragging on the roadway.
🔥Do not bring fireworks to public lands.

There are currently no public use restrictions in place for campfires, but officials will continue to monitor conditions. Fire danger may change quickly, and everyone is encouraged to “Know Before You Go” when planning a trip outdoors. To report a wildfire, please call 9-1-1. Additional information is available on the Siuslaw National Forest website at https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/siuslaw/fire.
