One movement. One trail. One powerful impact across South Carolina. šŸ—ŗļøšŸŒæ

The South Carolina 7 Expedition continues to be a driving force behind conversations at the SC Resilience Conference—and for good reason.

This annual statewide expedition follows the Palmetto Trail from the mountains to the sea, connecting communities, landscapes, and people through a shared journey. Along the way, participants experience South Carolina’s natural beauty firsthand while engaging in meaningful conversations around conservation, outdoor recreation, and resilience.

Year after year, SC7 brings together leaders, advocates, organizations, and communities—proving that getting outside isn’t just recreation, it’s a pathway to stronger, more resilient places.

And it’s happening again soon—SC7 kicks off July 1st. šŸŒ„

This Memorial Day, we’re reminded that there is no more important foundation for a sustainable and resilient future than the people we honor today. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

At the SC Resilience Conference, we talk about building stronger communities, protecting what matters, and planning for generations to come—but none of that is possible without the sacrifices made by those who served.

Their courage, commitment, and dedication to something greater than themselves are the very principles that resilience is built on.

Today, we pause in gratitude and remembrance. ā¤ļø

What a success! The SC Resilience Conference delivered—and this session was a standout. šŸŒŽšŸ’š

If you weren’t in the room for Green Tools for a Blue Planet: Sustainable Outdoor Practices for a Resilient South Carolina, you truly missed an inspiring and impactful conversation.

Susan Lunt (Clemson University & Carolina Clear) and Patricia Whitener (Clemson 4-H) shared practical, easy-to-adopt ways we can all better protect the natural spaces we love. Their message was clear: small, thoughtful actions outdoors can create lasting change for our environment and our communities.

It was a powerful reminder of how stewardship, wellness, and resilience are all connected here in South Carolina.

The energy, ideas, and collaboration at this year’s conference made it one to remember—and we’re already counting down to next year.

One of those sessions you’re still thinking about long after the conference ends. šŸŒæšŸšļøšŸŒŽ

Dr. Alan Todd brought a powerful and timely perspective to the SC Resilience Conference in Deconstruction and the Rise of the Material Reuse Movement—challenging the way we think about growth, waste, and preservation in South Carolina.

As Executive Director of Conway Architectural Salvage and Heritage Project , Dr. Todd is leading the charge to keep historic building materials out of landfills and give them new life—protecting our cultural heritage while promoting more sustainable building practices. His work is a reminder that resilience isn’t just about what we build next, but what we choose to save.

If you couldn’t get enough of this conversation (or missed it altogether), there’s more to explore. šŸ‘‡

šŸŽ§ Be sure to listen to our Blue & Green Minds podcast, Episode 5, where Dr. Todd dives even deeper into the stories behind material reuse, preservation, and the future of sustainable building at https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/conway-salvage-episode-5/id1867554521?i=1000753252962

Behind the SC Resilience Conference is a bigger story—and a bigger mission. šŸŒŽāœØ

The South Carolina National Heritage Corridor is proud to be the driving force behind this growing movement, bringing people together to build a stronger, more resilient South Carolina. šŸ¤šŸŒæ

But our work doesn’t stop at the conference—it shows up across the state in powerful, place-based initiatives:

• South Carolina 7 šŸ—ŗļø – A statewide journey along the Palmetto Trail that celebrates South Carolina’s natural and cultural heritage while bringing awareness to conservation and resilience efforts.

• SC Trail Towns 🄾 – Partnering with communities to develop outdoor recreation assets that drive economic growth, support local businesses, and connect people to trails, rivers, and public lands.

• Go Paddle SC šŸš£ā€ā™€ļø – Expanding access to South Carolina’s blueways by promoting paddling trails, improving access points, and encouraging stewardship of our waterways. 🌊

• Carolina Connection šŸŒ – Strengthening the cultural and historical ties between South Carolina and Barbados, this initiative highlights shared heritage, fosters international collaboration, and creates opportunities for education, tourism, and cultural exchange that enrich communities on both sides.

Each of these initiatives is rooted in the same vision:
āž”ļø Stronger communities šŸ˜ļø
āž”ļø Healthier landscapes 🌳
āž”ļø A more connected, resilient future šŸ”—

The SC Resilience Conference is where it all comes together—ideas, partnerships, and action that move our state forward. šŸ’”

This is what a resilience conference should feel like. šŸŒ±šŸ¤šŸŒŽ

The SC Resilience Conference brought conversations to life in "Connecting the Dots: Making Resilience Relevant in Your Community"—an interactive session that challenged participants to think beyond the big picture and focus on what resilience looks like at the local level.

Led by Dr. Andrew Predmore, Mike Winiski, and Adelaide Bates of Furman University’s Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities, this workshop explored how communities navigate both sudden shocks and ongoing stressors—and how collaboration across sectors is key to building stronger, more sustainable futures.

Through real-world examples and hands-on discussion, attendees walked away with practical strategies to connect resilience, sustainability, and community well-being in meaningful ways.

This is what made this year’s conference so impactful—turning ideas into action!

The SC Resilience Conference is not your typical conference—and that’s the point! šŸŒæšŸš£ā€ā™€ļø

At the SC Resilience Conference, we don’t just talk about protecting our natural resources—we get outside and experience them together.

This year, we offered a Revolutionary Rivers Paddle with River Rats, giving participants the chance to connect directly with South Carolina’s waterways, highlighting exactly what’s at stake when we talk about resilience. From 1:00–3:00 pm, attendees stepped out of the meeting room and onto the water, building a deeper appreciation for the places we’re working to protect for future generations.

In partnership with Nature at Work and the South Carolina Healthy Business Coalition, this experience brought our mission to life—because resilience starts with connection.

A keynote that challenged all of us to think bigger—and act sooner. šŸ’”

At the SC Resilience Conference, former SC Governor David Beasley delivered a powerful message: "Start solving the key problems of 2036 today."

A former Governor of South Carolina (1995–1999) and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Beasley is widely recognized for his global leadership as Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, where he helped lead efforts that earned the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize for combating hunger worldwide. His work has impacted millions, bringing urgency and innovation to some of the world’s most complex challenges.

His keynote pushed attendees to look ahead, think boldly, and take action now to build a more resilient future—both here in South Carolina and beyond.

The momentum from this year’s conference is just the beginning.
