Update: Kaiden Williams

As I usually do, I checked in with Kaiden's dad (Kevin) today to see how they were doing.

He replied with just one sentence.

"I held my son while the doctors cut into his face to get to the tumor."

I sat there looking at those words unable to respond. There isn't really a response for something like that. I just kept thinking how much they have both endured already and how difficult it continues to be.

Today was a hard day for Kaiden.

Although he has completed his first round of chemotherapy since arriving in India, the tumor has continued to grow. It has now broken through the skin and tissue of his cheek. This morning his doctors had to perform another procedure to manage the growth and to give him some relief.

His biopsy has already been completed, but the medical team is still waiting for the results of additional advanced testing. Those results will help guide the next steps in his treatment. Until then, they're strategically moving forward with the current care plan. Two more rounds of chemotherapy are planned, and an oncologic surgeon is actively evaluating whether surgery should become part of his treatment.

Kevin shared something else with me that I haven't been able to shake.

He said, "Kaiden is so strong. He keeps fighting. But the pain...even with all the medication they give him, it's unbearable."

If you've been praying for this little boy, please don't stop.

Pray for wisdom for the doctors who are caring for him. Pray that the remaining test results provide the answers they're searching for. Pray that his pain eases. And please remember Kevin, who has been by his son's side through every difficult moment.

Thank you for continuing to stand with this family. Your kindness has carried them farther than you know.

Update: Liana Prescod

Just a few weeks ago, Liana arrived in the United States via air ambulance in critical condition, fighting for her life.

Today, this beautiful little girl continues to make remarkable progress. ❤️

She still has a long road ahead, but every day she gets a little stronger. She remains under the close care of an incredible team of doctors who are watching over every step of her recovery.

While treating her external burn injuries, her doctors suspect that Liana may have also suffered injuries to her trachea. On July 30, she will undergo a comprehensive evaluation, including a scope of her airway, to determine whether surgery will be needed internally.

The road ahead is still uncertain, but one thing we know for sure is that she is in capable hands. She is expected to remain in treatment for at least another two months as her team continues to guide her recovery.

None of this would have been possible without your support.

Because of your generosity, Liana was able to reach the specialized care she so desperately needed. Now we’re asking you to stay with her a little longer. Her journey is far from over, and donations are still needed to help see her through treatment and recovery.

If you’re able, please consider making a donation. If you can’t donate today, sharing Liana’s story is one of the most powerful ways you can help. Every donation, every share, and every prayer reminds this family that they are not walking this road alone.

Thank you for standing with Liana through the hardest chapter of her young life. Your kindness has given her hope, healing, and a chance at the future every child deserves. ❤️

Update on Kaiden. ❤️

Just days ago, this little boy was in Guyana with a rapidly growing tumor that had become so aggressive it broke through his cheek and started growing in his mouth. Unfortunately, the advanced treatment needed is not yet available in Guyana, and time was running out for him. Thanks to your incredible kindness and generosity, Kaiden and his dad were able to quickly travel to India, where he finally has access to the specialized care he urgently needs.

They’ve settled in well, and Kaiden is now going through a comprehensive evaluation, including a biopsy, MRI, CT scan, blood work, and consultations with his medical team. Once all of the results are in, his doctors expect to begin treatment later this week. His treatment journey is expected to last approximately six months.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared his story, and kept this family in your prayers. Because of you, Kaiden has hope.

Please continue to keep Kaiden and his dad in your thoughts and prayers as they begin this fight. We’ll continue to share updates along the way. ❤️🙏🏻

Update: Kaiden departed for India today!

When your mom is your guardian angel, no force on Earth could stand in your way.

I truly believe Kaiden’s late mother is guiding him through the fight of his life.

On Tuesday morning, our lead volunteer in Guyana, Sita Sugrim, called to let us know that someone had come to her office for a donation to help their son travel to India for cancer treatment. Since this is our wheelhouse, she asked a few questions before simply handing over the donation.

That’s when we learned that, the man, Kaiden’s father, Kevin, didn’t really have a plan. He knew he had to get his son to India to save his life and that’s all he was focused on. He had a quote and a sponsored oneway ticket, but he didn’t have treatment services arranged, the funds to pay for treatment, or a support system guiding or waiting for them in India.

Instead of sending him off with a donation and wishing him luck, Sita offered guidance.

As fate would have it, just two weeks earlier we had connected with the Former First Lady of Guyana, Varshni Singh (an angel in her own right), who has years of experience working with hospitals in India through her organization, Kids First Fund. We asked if she would reach out to her contacts in India to help Kaiden, and everything changed at lightning speed.

Before we knew it, Kaiden had the support of two powerhouse organizations: Kids First Fund and SHEA Charity!

Within 48 hours, his treatment was arranged, his transfer to India was coordinated, and the hospital agreed to reduce its fees so that he could receive the care he desperately needs.

Then the community did what it always does best: Two incredibly kind persons stepped forward to sponsor Kevin and Kaiden’s flights. Others donated suitcases and clothing , and monetary donations began pouring in for this precious little boy. One person after another showed up to make sure Kaiden has a fighting chance.

Sometimes, when all the pieces fall into place so perfectly, you can’t help but believe that someone (a force beyond this world) is opening doors that no one else can. And we truly believe that someone is Kaiden’s mom who lost her battle to cancer last year June.

Today, it is our absolute pleasure to share that Kaiden is on his way to India.

Please keep him and his father in your prayers. His journey is just beginning, but today he has something he truly deserves…Hope. ❤️

Thank you for being Kaiden’s hero!

First, thank you.

Thank you to every person who has donated, shared Kaiden's fundraiser, prayed for him, or simply taken a moment to care. We wish we were bringing you better news today.

Unfortunately, Kaiden's condition is getting worse.

The tumor is growing incredibly fast and causing him significant pain. Over the past two days alone, it has broken through his cheek and has now started growing inside his mouth. Watching this happen has been heartbreaking.

Our biggest fear right now is that, if it continues growing at this pace, Kaiden may soon lose the ability to eat.

There is nothing more that can be done for him in Guyana. His only chance is to get to India, where the specialized treatment he desperately needs is available.

Time is no longer on Kaiden's side.

If you have already donated, thank you. If you haven't been able to, we completely understand. You can still make an enormous difference by sharing his story. The right person may see it at the right moment and become the reason this little boy gets the chance he deserves.

Please keep Kaiden in your prayers, and please keep sharing. Every day matters.

URGENT REQUEST: Help Save Kaiden!

Five-year-old Kaiden Williams has already lived through more heartbreak than most people experience in a lifetime.

Last year, he lost his mother to cancer.

Now, he is fighting cancer himself.

What first looked like an insect bite near his left eye quickly turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. Doctors discovered a rare and aggressive cancer called Stage III rhabdomyosarcoma.

Chemotherapy began immediately, but the cancer kept growing. Kaiden lost his left eye, and the tumor continued to spread, changing his little face in ways no child should ever endure.

His father, Kevin, is still trying to cope with losing his wife while desperately fighting to save his son. Between hospital visits, caring for Kaiden and his other child, and overwhelming grief, keeping up with work has become almost impossible.

But there is hope! Kaiden has been accepted for specialized treatment at the National Cancer Institute in India. The cost of his treatment, surgery, chemotherapy, housing, meals, and transportation is approximately US$25,000.

We’re asking you to help give this little boy the chance his mother would have wanted for him: a future.

Every donation brings Kaiden one step closer to life-saving treatment. If you can’t donate today, please share his story. It could reach the person who can.

Thank you for standing with Kaiden and his family.

Happy Birthday, sweet Davie! ❤️🎉

Today we celebrate so much more than your birthday. We celebrate your courage, your strength, and the incredible miracle of your life.

This past year has tested you in ways no child should ever have to endure, but through every challenge, you never gave up. You fought with a strength that inspired all of us, and today you are home, healthy, and cancer-free. What a beautiful reason to celebrate!

After everything you’ve been through, the only thing you wished for this birthday was to be home. I’m so grateful we were able to make that happen.

It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to walk this journey with you. I am so incredibly proud of the brave, kind, and resilient young lady you are becoming.

May this new year of your life be filled with good health, happiness, laughter, love, and countless beautiful memories with your family. You deserve every wonderful thing life has to offer.

Happy Birthday, Davie! Keep smiling, keep dreaming, and never forget that your SHEA family will always be here cheering you on.

With all my love,

Aunty Lori ❤️

Update: Davie Nirdhan is home!

There are moments that remind us why we do this work.

These two photos capture one extraordinary journey. In the first, Dave carries his little sister, Davie, to treatment after she became too weak to walk. In the second, seven months later, he is holding her hand as they walk together to board their flight home to Guyana…Cancer-free.

Over the past several months, 13-year-old Davie Nirdhan has endured more than most people will face in a lifetime. After relapsing with an aggressive form of leukemia, she traveled thousands of miles from Guyana to Armenia for specialized treatment that simply was not available at home. She fought through intensive chemotherapy, immunotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, devastating complications, and even flatlined after her transplant. But she never stopped fighting.

She is a true warrior with an incredible will to live.

This journey would not have been possible without one very special person: her brother, Dave. From the very beginning, he never left her side. He carried her when she was too weak to walk. He became her bone marrow donor, giving her the gift of a second chance at life. And today, he held her hand as they walked together toward the plane that would finally take them home.

Some heroes wear capes. Others simply show up when their sister needs them.

To Davie’s incredible medical team and everyone who cared for her with such compassion and expertise, thank you for giving this little girl the opportunity to live.

To every donor, volunteer, partner, supporter, and every person who shared her story, prayed for her, or believed in our mission, thank you. You helped make this miracle possible.

This is why SHEA exists. This is what hope looks like. And this is what can happen when people from around the world come together to save the life of a child. đź’›

Another life saved. Another child returned to her parents.
