In the aftermath of the 821 fire that took at least 3 lives, left several with PTSD symptoms, families wondering if a missing loved one perished in the fire, seeing the grief of our neighbors, and feeling it with them, this roof damage seems very insignificant.

But yes, those are burn holes from the debris that melted through our rubber roof. And expenses have been incurred to repair it.

But God... in 2016, DuroLast roofing donated all the material for this roof. Sweers Roofing today let us know that the fire resistant element in the DuroLast material literally saved our building. He stated that any other material would have caught fire and destroyed BLRC.

On behalf of those served at B Light Restoration Center, we respectfully ask that those involved in politics refrain from attempting to use the fire at 821 MLK as a platform for your political campaign.

While the fire did raise awareness to the needs of the unhoused in our city, and we applaud your desire to be involved in addressing those needs, please, DO NOT use this as a photo op.

If you truly care and want to make a difference, consider coming in WITH your opponent, and work together to make some changes:
1. Lead a support group.
2. Volunteer to do a structured activity during the day that keeps our neighbors off the street.
3. Come in, grab a cup of coffee, sit with our neighbors, and listen to their stories.
4. Advocate for MORE than just housing. While housing is definitely needed, many of those we serve do not maintain their housing due to the lack of an empowering support system and the lack of ability to manage their housing independently.

The fire at 821 MLK hit close to home for us. Our prayers, support, and hearts are with the survivors and victims today. We are committed to supporting those affected as they navigate the road ahead.

Thank you, to the many who are praying for the families of those whose loved one has been confirmed and those whose loved ones are missing. There are several who are looking for loved ones, and no one really knows who all was in the house. Personally, I know of at least 5 people who have not been seen since the fire, 2 that I know beyond a shadow of a doubt were inside, and an additional 8 - 10 who have not been seen since the raids. Please continue to pray for these families and that answers could be found quickly.

But my heart is still heavy for many more.

Please continue to pray for..... THE SURVIVORS
The one from the 3rd floor who told fire fighters that 3 people were behind her, where only one behind her was able to be pulled confirmed deceased) is dealing with nightmares. Others were able to get out on their own who weren't reported on the news, and more than likely are also dealing with the after math, knowing that individuals are still missing... INDIVIDUALS WHO LIVED IN THE HOUSE
Many people stayed in that house, but were not there that evening are processing this in a way no one else can understand. .. FRIENDS OF THOSE WHO KNEW THE CONFIRMED VICTIM AND THE ALLEGED VICTIMS
On the street, "friends" see each other daily, eat nearly every meal together, know who stays where and hangs with whom, and so the level of connection is often more than those of us with housing have with our own friends. Truly, it is more like a family. The grief is raw and real... FIRST RESPONDERS
They were aware that more people were in the house but they simply couldn't reach them, and I'm sure they are also processing this with a whole different level of PTSD than can be imagined... THE JUSTICE SYSTEM
There were two alleged raids that took place in that house in the two weeks prior to the fire. As of Thursday, the 9th, those taken into custody (who still have not been seen), were still not reported in the jail's system. (I just checked VINELink, and the ones reported to me as having gone to jail still are not showing up there.) So while they are supposedly in jail, families are unable to get verification of that. Pray that they expedite the process so that families seeking to know where loved ones are can have assurance that their loved one is alive... THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE
