April is Autism Acceptance Month. To promote acceptance, inclusion, and understanding of individuals with autism, the University of Michigan-Flint is hosting Officer Friendly Day, a free event on April 26th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
This event is designed for autistic individuals, their families, caregivers, friends, and allies. It provides a unique opportunity to build positive relationships with law enforcement officers before an emergency occurs and to get safety-related questions answered in a supportive environment.
What can attendees expect?
✅ Interact with law enforcement officers in a welcoming setting
✅ Explore police vehicles
✅ Participate in fun activities (e.g., story time with an officer, lawn games, drawing, building blocks)
✅ Practice what to do if pulled over in a simulated traffic stop
✅ Engage with officers through virtual reality experiences
✅ Enjoy pizza and pop!
