Light in the Darkness: A Night to Remember ❤️

We are overwhelmed with gratitude as the lights of Genesee County shine brighter this week! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we’ve reached a total of $83,000 in donations for Young Life's Light in the Darkness fundraiser — and donations are still coming in!

We are so blessed by God, by the support of our amazing sponsors and all who so generously gave on behalf of unchurched kids in Genesee County. Your heartwarming generosity will transform lives, bring hope, resources, and a brighter future to youth being introduced to Jesus Christ and being helped to grow in their faith.

Special thanks to our speaker Steve Chesney -- but even more importantly to the youth who shared their hearts with us that night — your words have left an indelible mark on our hearts.

What a night of encouragement and purpose! May we all continue shining our lights in the darkness for all the world to see.

If you’d still like to donate and be part of this continued impact, you can contribute here:

Thank you again for standing with our youth and with each other. Today His Light feels wonderfully blinding.

Big news for Young Life Genesee County as Jake Kirk assumes role of Adult Committee Chair!

***

I want to thank Jenny Colberg for her service as committee chair these past few years. Her leadership, wisdom, commitment to the mission and county is something I aspire to continue.

God used YL to introduce himself to me over a decade ago. Since then I have had the privilege to serve on YL staff in many roles and experience many adventures I never imagined I would have. Through YL I found my wife, my best friends, and purpose. But at the heart of all those wonderful things gained and experienced was a deep desire to walk alongside kids as they experience Jesus and all He has for them.

Through prayer, I step into this new role with grace, humility, and peace answering a call back to this ministry. My hope is to help support the staff and volunteers not only in their mission, but in their own spiritual journey. And may we never stray from the heart of the ministry, every kid, everywhere.

Giving Tuesday isn’t about choosing one good work over another, but partnering with God in generational renewal through relational, gospel-centered ministry. Your gift to Young Life Genesee County today fuels mentorships that guide unchurched youth to Christ’s love and purpose. We bring God’s unconditional love into everyday moments—conversations, laughter, questions, and quiet spaces where trust grows. We equip disciples who invest in young lives, training mentors to shepherd with spiritual maturity and compassion. Please join us in introducing Jesus Christ to youth across Genesee County.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Stiverson as a full-time staff member at Young Life Genesee County. His appointment follows the completion of a six-month internship focusing on the ministry of Young Life.

Throughout his internship, Matt demonstrated a remarkable passion for God, a genuine love for youth, and a steadfast commitment to building meaningful community. His dedication and heartfelt approach have truly inspired those around him, and we are honored to have him continue serving in this new capacity in Grand Blanc. He and Cindy Warber will head up efforts to reach youth in the 7th largest public high school in the state of Michigan.

Matt became involved with Young Life Genesee County as a student at Lake Fenton High School. He became a WyldLife leader at Lake Fenton Middle School in 2017 until he resigned to take this full time position in Grand Blanc. He also helped lead Young Life in Lake Fenton.

"I have seen God do amazing things with this ministry," Matt said when accepting this position. "I cannot wait to be working in the Grand Blanc community."

We look forward to witnessing the continued impact of his ministry and the positive influence he will have on the young people and families we serve.

Please join us in welcoming Matt to this new chapter of his calling.

Thank you for your ongoing support and prayers as we move forward together in faith and service.
