This week, we mourn with the Muslim community of San Diego and with all those impacted by the horrific act of violence that took place on May 18. Three innocent lives were taken in an act of hate targeting a sacred space of worship and community. Our hearts are with the families, loved ones, and everyone grieving in San Diego and across the country.

On April 29, the Supreme Court heard arguments about the government’s attempt to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) protections for Syria and Haiti. The Court is now deciding whether TPS protections can remain in place while the legal challenges continue.

Swipe through to learn: What the government argued, what TPS advocates argued, and what happens next. We are still encouraging community to sign on to the Protect TPS Letter. Visit the link in our bio to learn more.

For now, TPS remains in place.
If you or someone you know needs support or has questions about TPS, reach out to FAIR or AAHC: [email protected] & [email protected]

Yesterday, we were honored to partner with the Arab American National Museumfor the 21st Arab Film Festival and a screening of All That’s Left of You at University of Michigan–Flint. Swipe for a photo recap!

This multi-generational Palestinian epic opens with Cherien Dabis speaking directly into the camera: “I know you are wondering why we are here… But for you to understand, I must tell you what happened to his grandfather.” This opening sets the stage for an incredibly moving story about the ongoing violence and oppression faced by Palestinians. Throughout the film, we witness displacement, survival, heartbreak, and grief unfold across generations, leaving audiences to contend with the emotional weight of the story and reflect on its lasting impact.

After the screening, audience members discussed how Dabis’s exceptional film not only reclaims and preserves Palestinian narratives, but also invites the audience to , especially those who have believed the false histories and propaganda repeated for generations, to engage in the intentional and necessary reflection this story demands. In a time when this violence and oppression has only increased, the film serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to keep telling these stories, raising awareness, and taking meaningful action.

Thank you to all of our partners (including Flint Alliance for Immigrant Rights and the UM-Flint Intercultural Center at University of Michigan–Flint) as well as everyone who attended and helped make this event so meaningful.

We are incredibly grateful to the University of Michigan–Flint Social Work capstone students who partnered with the FAIR and the AAHC this semester. It’s been an honor to work alongside such a dedicated, thoughtful, and justice-driven group of students. Last week, FAIR coalition members attend the SSW Celebration of Excellence event, where we got to celebrate the accomplishments of the students.

Throughout their time with us, the students made meaningful contributions to our work. They supported translation of FAIR and AAHC digital materials, helping us reach more community members across the county. They showed up in solidarity at our community teach-ins, engaging with residents and helping strengthen collective learning/action. They also contributed to critical research on immigration detention centers and 287(g) agreements across Michigan, work that helps inform advocacy and improve public understanding of the systems impacting immigrant communities.

We are so proud of all that they accomplished and excited to see how they continue to grow and contribute to movements for justice.

Today, for National Arab American Service Day, we spent the day in service across our community! We partnered with Flint Alliance for Immigrant Rights (FAIR), the Refugee Welcome Team, and the Muslim Food Pantry. Volunteers supported food distribution and helped with yard clean-ups at local homes.

Thank you to all our incredible volunteers for spending the day with us!

🚨URGENT MUTUAL AID REQUEST: Ibrahim has now been detained for over 100 days, and his family is continuing to raise funds to fight for his freedom.

In February 2026, Ibrahim was driving his wife to work when their car was followed and suddenly cut off by unmarked vehicles. Two ICE agents approached and demanded identification. Despite having a pending asylum case, valid work authorization, and no criminal record in Jordan or the U.S., Ibrahim was taken into custody.

He is currently being held at the North Lake Correctional Facility in Baldwin, Michigan. His family is urgently raising $7,500 to cover legal fees and secure the representation needed to reunite him with his loved ones. The donation link can be found in our bio. Every donation and every share makes a difference.

A new article from The Flint City Times published about the AAHC’s 5th Annual MENA Artist Showcase!

The night brought together artists, performers, and community members not just to celebrate, but to reflect on what it means to stay connected to culture and to each other.

“Real solidarity is rooted in collective care and action. Building and organizing with us means standing against oppression, fighting for real investment in our communities, supporting immigrant families, and showing up for one another again and again.”

Special thank you to Rob Kost for the thoughtful coverage and photography. Click here for the full article: https://flintcitytimes.com/aahc-arab-heritage-month-mena-artist-showcase-flint/

Tomorrow, April 29, the Supreme Court will hear a landmark Temporary Protected Status (TPS) cases that could impact hundreds of thousands of immigrant families, including Haitian and Syrian TPS holders.

This is a critical moment to demand action from elected officials. We are calling on leaders to publicly defend TPS holders, support permanent protections, and stand with immigrant communities.

Add your name or organization to sign onto our public letter calling for action. Read the full letter and sign on today: https://shorturl.at/LHaxi
