Meet Lameck Chakalamba, a final-year Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Financial Management student at the Malawi College of Accountancy, who also serves as an Internal Auditor at Central East African Railways (CEAR).
Lameckโs journey with MCA began in 2010 when he enrolled for a Certificate in Accounting under PAEC. After successfully completing the programme, he progressed to a diploma, then pursued a Bachelorโs Degree in Applied Accounting, Auditing and Information Systems, and is now finalising his MBA at the same institution.
Reflecting on his academic journey, Lameck says:
โEach level showed me the value of MCAโs training, so continuing to postgraduate level was the natural next step in building my expertise in finance and management. Moving from certificate to diploma, degree, and now masterโs level at MCA has pushed me to think critically, manage my time effectively, and work independently.
โThe combination of lectures, case studies, and practical learning has prepared me to operate confidently at a professional level in finance and management.โ
He describes MCAโs learning environment as collaborative and supportive, noting that from his PAEC certificate days in 2010 up to now, he has consistently found lecturers approachable and willing to go beyond the syllabus. He adds that staff members are responsive and committed to student success, creating a strong culture of learning and excellence.
According to Lameck, studying at MCA has greatly contributed to both his professional and personal growth.
โProfessionally, studying at MCA directly contributed to my role as Internal Auditor at CEAR. The skills I gained in financial management, governance, and risk analysis have helped me approach audits with greater confidence and a more strategic mindset. Personally, growing with MCA over the past 15 years has made me more disciplined, resilient, and confident.โ
๐He singled out Corporate Governance as one of the most impactful courses in his studies, saying it gave him a deeper growth adding that It has directly influenced both his dissertation and work in internal audit.
Sharing a word of encouragement to aspiring students, Lameck says:
โIโm proud of the journey from a PAEC certificate to an MBA at MCA. If you want growth you can truly see, MCA delivers. I started here in 2010 with a certificate, and now Iโm graduating with an MBA this August while working as an Internal Auditor. Come ready to work hard, ask questions, and make use of the resources and lecturers around you. Postgraduate studies require independent thinking, and MCA gives you the foundation to succeed.โ
As he looks forward to graduating this August, Lameck says he is eager to apply the knowledge and skills he has gained to strengthen financial management, governance, and accountability in Malawi.
