It was a great day at the Capitol in Lansing today! We had 11 chapter members in attendance, plus many familiar faces from the Sons and Woman's Relief Corp from Genesee County. Our Chaplain General, Margie Neal, gave a very moving event blessing.

We picked up our assigned flag in Heritage Hall, lined up and walked them out on the street around the corner to the Capitol and returned the flags to the cases in the rotunda. On the steps of the Capitol we recreated a photograph from 1909, where the veterans were holding the flags. In 2024, the descendants, very thankful for their sacrifice and the preservation of the union, stood holding the replica flags. We then each placed our flags in the correct rotunda case. Lunch and great fellowship followed 😊

On a Kentucky road trip, thought some of you might want to see some of my pictures, visited all the Lincoln sites yesterday in Hodgenville, and found a hotel in nearby Munfordville. The librarian in me soon realized a Civil War battle took place in this town. Kentucky was neutral during the war, but several key battles happened in the state including The Battle of Munfordville (aka The Battle for the Bridge). The bridge, was a railroad bridge over the Green River. A Confederate victory at the bridge impaired the Union's supply lines. The fighting caused great damage to the nearby Woodson Family Farm, the government later reimbursed the family for the extensive damage. The Union lost 4,148 men and the Confederate's lost 714 men. The loss of life was on my mind as I walked the farm, and drove over and walked under the bridge.

For outstanding service to her unit over the past year, showing dependability, character, discipline, leadership, patriotism, and service to fellow cadets. The cadet speakers and the drill teams' absolute precision were inspiring. Congratulations to Olivia and all of the cadets!
