Strong Towns Flint

Strong Towns Flint The mission of Strong Towns Flint is to advocate for quality, effective urbanism in the City of Flint.

The mission of Flint Residents for Stronger Neighborhoods is to advocate for quality, effective urbanism in the City of Flint. Specifically this means that FRSN advocates for policies and developments that improve walkability, transit access, and allow people to live diverse types of urban lifestyles in Flint. This can mean lower density neighborhoods with larger lots and access to transit and nei

ghborhood centers in walking distance, or it can mean high density neighborhoods of rowhouses, townhomes, apartments and more with a diverse mix of uses. We need to provide our neighbors with options of how to live, whether that is in a single family detached home, a duplex, a rowhouse, or an apartment building.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Flint Urbanist Happy Hour - Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers event at Queens' Provisions! MARP is the foremost advocacy group in Michigan committed to supporting and growing passenger rail, and Flint's voice is being heard in it!

Strong Towns Flint is advocating for a simple connection - Flint to Pontiac - which would connect Flint to Detroit on existing rail lines. If you are interested in getting involved, join us at the Strong Towns Flint January Organizing Meeting on January 13th! Thanks to the Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers for cohosting this event with us.

The new budget adopted by the Michigan Legislature includes substantial new funding for Public Transit. This is a key opportunity for the MTA - Flint MI to implement many of the recommendations in the recent fixed route study, including new routes to high demand areas and *more frequency* on existing routes.

Many committed transit activists helped get this funding increase in place, now is the time to use it to improve our transit system!

Highways are great tools to connect distant places. When we work to use them to connect very local places, we destroy the communities that those places exist in. Check out a Strong Towns perspective below on the purpose of highways.

Be sure to make your voice heard! We need buses that go more places, more often. Strong Towns Flint firmly believes that we need to increase bus frequency to high-traffic routes running every 15 minutes, and now is the chance to advocate for it!

Come join us for our first open house to learn about the purposed Primary Route changes and share your feedback. Today at the Farmers Flint Farmers' Market from 11-2. There will be giveaways and treats along with information.

Hello Strong Towns friends! After much public feedback and advocacy, the MTA - Flint MI is planning to present proposed changes and improvements to our Fixed Route Bus Network in the coming weeks! Proposed changes are as follows:

Changes/Additions
Route 3 - Miller/Linden
Route 8 - South Saginaw
Route 11 - Fenton Road (Somewhat minor changes)
Route 13 - Crosstown North
Route 15 - Dort/Averill
Some combinations of routes later in the evening.

Important moments to provide feedback on this are as follows:
Flint Farmers Market - Tuesday August 19th from 11am-2pm
MTA Downtown Transportation Center - Tuesday, August 26th from 11am-3pm
Gloria Coles Flint Public Library - Thursday September 4th from 12pm-2pm and 5pm-7pm

Details of the proposed changes will also be uploaded online at https://www.mtaflint.org/proposed-primary-route-changes/ soon.

This is a chance for Strong Towns Flint members to advocate for our clear requests:

Buses that come more frequently (every 10-15 minutes should be the goal)

More evening frequency

Buses that reach more corridors in need of service, like Dort Highway, Hill Road, and more suburban communities.

Please attend one of these sessions and make your voice heard for better bus service!
