Dec. 28 marks day three of Kwanzaa, and on the third day, we light the first green candle to the right of the black candle. This candle represents the principle of or collective work and responsibility.

Once the flame is lit, the glow of this candle symbolizes a flicker that means that we are collectively responsible for our achievements as well as our setbacks. We must build and maintain our community together and make our brothers’ and sisters’ problems our problems and solve them together.

Today marks the start of Kwanzaa, also spelled Kwanza (with one 'a' at the end). It's a seven-day non-religious holiday observed in the U.S., meant to honor African Americans' ancestral roots. The celebration lasts until Jan. 1.

The name comes from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza," which means "first fruits."

Umoja

Umoja means unity in Swahili.
"To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation and race."

Flint, MI. Still DOESN'T have clean water.

To make fun of an entire city, where people are dying, people are terminally sick, our children have developmental issues because our entire city was poisoned. We do not find this funny. We do not appreciate it and will continue to fight for our city.

Secretary Ally, went and protested and stood in alliance for us all in support of the Palestines.

Some of the worst violence in years broke out between Israelis and Palestinians, an eruption of unrest that began a month ago in Jerusalem.

For weeks now, Palestinian protesters and Israeli police have clashed on a daily basis in and around Jerusalem's Old City, home to major religious sites sacred to Jews, Christians and Muslims and the emotional epicenter of the Middle East conflict.

Jerusalem has been the scene of violent confrontations between Jews and Arabs for 100 years and remains one of the most bitterly contested cities on earth. The latest clashes began a month ago with an Israeli move to block some Palestinian gatherings at the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, already a time of heightened religious sensitivities. After those restrictions eased, tensions over a plan to evict dozens of Palestinians from an east Jerusalem neighborhood continued to fuel confrontations.

Most recently, rockets streamed out of Gaza and Israel pounded the territory with airstrikes Wednesday, with dozens killed and no resolution in sight.

The death toll in Gaza rose to 43 Palestinians, including 13 children and three women, according to the Health Ministry. Israeli airstrikes have leveled two multistory apartment towers in the Gaza Strip, where 2 million Palestinians have lived.

Ally commits a-lot of time to the hospital she is at and makes sure she advocates for women, especially African American woman. We absolutely love our . Thank you so much for your advocacy and putting your life on the line to save others. We cant wait to see where your nursing journey takes you!
