Last night was a fun and power-packed meeting! Two Club members teamed up to give a presentation on managing anxiety during speeches, complete with audience participation. Another member presented a personal story of meaning and hope.

We were honored to host guest speaker Nev March, award-winning author of many mystery books, including Murder in Old Bombay (listed as one of the NYTimes Best Mysteries of 2020). Her presentation, "Adventures of a Mystery Writer" was a hit with the Club last night. She is pictured, below, with Club members Ted Mertyris and Stephen Zimmerbaum, outgoing President of the Club for the 2025-2026 year.

With the upcoming federal holiday this Monday, our May in-person meeting has been moved to Monday, June 1st. Which means we have two in-person meetings next month!

The New York Times listed it as one of the “Best crime novels of 2020”. The Spanish Diplomat's Secret has won other awards as well.

As I was putting the finishing touches on our newsletter for the last quarter, I came across this photo of Thaine and Susan from the White Elephant gift exchange after our last meeting.

It was a reminder that Toastmasters is about so many things: writing, practicing, and delivering speeches; giving and receiving feedback; taking on a role for the first time; mentoring; leading. But it's also a community of unparalleled support, encouragement, and yes, lots of fun and laughs as well!

Hope to see you in the New Year! The next meeting is virtual on Monday, January 12th. https://njspeakeasy.toastmastersclubs.org/

The Smedley is for at least 5 new or re-instated members from August 1-September 30. We had 5 new members and 1 re-instated member during that time!
