At 904 Chargers, our players are more than athletes. They’re kids, and their safety will always come first.
That’s why EVERY 904 Chargers player in EVERY age group now has a Guardian Cap for their helmet. We’re investing in an extra layer of protection because when it comes to our kids, we believe in doing everything reasonably possible to reduce unnecessary impact.
And the numbers are encouraging.
Guardian Caps are designed to reduce the force of impacts to the head. In NFL preseason research, the Guardian Cap use was associated with a 54%–62% reduction in overall practice concussion rates among the positions studied.
But a Guardian Cap isn't a magic shield, and we don't want our players or parents to think it is. That's why safety at 904 Chargers goes beyond equipment.
It’s teaching proper tackling.
It’s practicing proper head position.
It’s encouraging our players to speak up when something doesn't feel right.
And now, it’s putting another layer between our players and the impacts that come with the game.
