About the Fleetwood Area Historical Society...
The Fleetwood Historical society was established in 1991 as a non-profit organization by a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the rich historic heritage of the Fleetwood area. After many hours of volunteer labor, former schoolrooms were transformed into a museum, an office and a meeting room. Since then, almost 8,000 artifacts have been
received, cataloged and displayed or stored in our museum. Cataloging allows us to search the computer to locate a named person, group, event or article, to learn whether or not we have anything about the item for which we searched. In addition to operating the museum, Society volunteers handle correspondence and memberships, arrange special programs and speakers, do photography and printing, make presentations to schools and community groups, and scout flea markets and public sales for pertinent artifacts. The Society's motto, "Preserving the Past for the Future," speaks for our intent. The Museum is a place for older persons to reminisce and a source for you people and visitors to learn about the varied history of the Fleetwood area. Carl Herman was the original President, and Mr. Dennis Becker was a long-time president. Becker died on August 14, 2011, and the current president is William Strause.
