There is a family who choose to spend some family vacation time in Deeside working on the roof of the Community Center where we have our Food Distribution, where The Rescue Church meets and where a variety of additional community activities take place.

The roof was torn off by Hurricane Melissa. Part of it was replaced by a previous team in December.

Thank you God for holding back the rain today allowing them to get off to a great start!

Many of us take a Christmas meal for granted.

On Christmas Day The Care House distributed 50 chickens to people who are part of the Deeside Community. One person reached out today to say, "thank you." They commented they would not have had any meat to eat on Christmas Day if not for the chicken they received from The Care House.

Thank you for making it possible for us to serve people in the Deeside community.

On Sunday, more than 90 families in the Deeside community received bags of food & toilet paper!

There were also water filters for those who needed/wanted them. Thankfully water was restored to the community this past week.

Deeside continues to be without electricity. People have been working to restore the main line as quickly as possible. It will take some additional time to get it to homes.

Thank you to Sister Galloway and the Care House team who served the community.

Thank you, also, to those who generously give to make this possible. You may not see it first hand, but you are helping. Thank you!

These are a few photos from Deeside that provide a small glimpse into what people in Deeside, Jamaica are experiencing.

The yellow and blue building without a roof and the people standing near it is the Community Center where we do the monthly food distribution.

Down that driveway is where a nearly finished home for Shanique once stood. This is the one a team from the US partnered to help build this past summer.

Things are hard, but The Care House plans to be in Deeside with the people of Deeside throughout the recovery.

An update from Deeside.

An update from Deeside.

Last night, while working for the Trelawny/Falmouth Fire Department, Deacon Odane was in the Montego Bay Area where there is reception. This allowed him and I (Pastor Sam) to talk for a few minutes. In an effort to keep this short, I will hit on key points.

* The people of Deeside are safe. Thank you God!
* Unfortunately, since Richard lives in a different community, Odane had not heard from him. (We did hear from Janiel, Richard’s daughter, and it sounds like they are ok.)
* There is incredible devastation in Deeside. Odane’s family lost part of their roof but other homes, including the one we build for Shanique this past summer, were leveled. Additionally, the roof for the community center has been ripped off (This is where the Deeside Campus meets).
* The bigger stores where people would get food and supplies have been looted and/or damaged. They are waiting on restocking. The focus of government agencies has been opening roads to get help and supplies where they need to be and Odane theorized they would be getting emergency relief and restocked supplies from Kingston in the upcoming days
* When asked what they needed, Odane said they need money to buy food, supplies and building materials once places are restocked. Anything helps.
* He said they also appreciate prayer. (Prayer is powerful)

There aren’t photos right now. Deacon Odane is on Day 5 of working straight through. He was able to see Omelia, but had to walked through a flooded road to get to the other side, see her and get the update. He has not been back to Deeside.

If you are able, please donate. Every dollar matters and will be put towards helping in the Deeside Community in the days and weeks to come. Let’s ensure the people in Deeside know we care.

As we continue to pray for Jamaica and all who live there/here, there is another practical way you can help.

When launching The Care House as a ministry of the Deeside Campus of The Rescue Church, Pastor Richard stressed the importance of the community knowing how much we care about their physical needs. In the years since then we have offered food distribution, home repairs, home building, school maintenance/repair, a medical screening and more.

The need for help following this storm is significant. If you are able, please donate. Every dollar matters and will be put towards helping in the Deeside Community in the days and weeks to come. Let’s ensure the people in Deeside know we care.

Thank you for your prayers and financial support!
