An update from Deeside.
Last night, while working for the Trelawny/Falmouth Fire Department, Deacon Odane was in the Montego Bay Area where there is reception. This allowed him and I (Pastor Sam) to talk for a few minutes. In an effort to keep this short, I will hit on key points.
* The people of Deeside are safe. Thank you God!
* Unfortunately, since Richard lives in a different community, Odane had not heard from him. (We did hear from Janiel, Richard’s daughter, and it sounds like they are ok.)
* There is incredible devastation in Deeside. Odane’s family lost part of their roof but other homes, including the one we build for Shanique this past summer, were leveled. Additionally, the roof for the community center has been ripped off (This is where the Deeside Campus meets).
* The bigger stores where people would get food and supplies have been looted and/or damaged. They are waiting on restocking. The focus of government agencies has been opening roads to get help and supplies where they need to be and Odane theorized they would be getting emergency relief and restocked supplies from Kingston in the upcoming days
* When asked what they needed, Odane said they need money to buy food, supplies and building materials once places are restocked. Anything helps.
* He said they also appreciate prayer. (Prayer is powerful)
There aren’t photos right now. Deacon Odane is on Day 5 of working straight through. He was able to see Omelia, but had to walked through a flooded road to get to the other side, see her and get the update. He has not been back to Deeside.
If you are able, please donate. Every dollar matters and will be put towards helping in the Deeside Community in the days and weeks to come. Let’s ensure the people in Deeside know we care.
Donations can be made online at https://therescuechurch.churchcenter.com/giving (select CareHouse – Storm Relief) or on Venmo (write in the description “Storm Relief”)
Thank you for your prayers and support!
