Agencies other than ICE have been recently active in Flagstaff. Using warrants, agents with drug enforcement and the FBI have been stopping and detaining people.

Please don’t assume what you see is ICE. Posting rumors and making assumptions causes harm, uncertainty and fear among the immigrant community.

El sábado aproximadamente a las 2:30 a.m., el Departamento de Policía de Flagstaff respondió a una queja por ruido en la vivienda de un residente. Durante la intervención, los oficiales arrestaron al residente en base a una orden judicial que data de principios de los años 2000.

La persona fue ingresada en la Cárcel del Condado de Coconino, donde fue puesta en comunicación con CBP/ICE. Posteriormente, la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Coconino emitió una retención de ICE de 48 horas sin una orden judicial. Antes de que ICE asumiera la custodia, la Oficina del Sheriff aceptó $4,000 de fianza sin informar que la retención de ICE impediría su liberación.

Menos de 12 horas después del arresto, ICE tomó custodia de la persona y la trasladó a un centro de detención. La Oficina del Sheriff también incumplió con notificar oportunamente al consulado de la persona sobre su detención.

Aconsejamos a los miembros de la comunidad:
* Negarse a comunicarse con CBP/ICE
* Evitar pagar fianza sin antes confirmar si existe una retención de ICE.

Exigimos al Sheriff electo Bret Axlund que:

On Saturday at approximately 2:30 a.m., Flagstaff Police responded to a noise complaint at a resident’s home. During the response, officers arrested the resident on a warrant dating back to the early 2000s.

The individual was booked into Coconino County Jail, where they were placed on a call with CBP/ICE. The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office then issued a 48-hour ICE hold without a judicial warrant. Prior to ICE taking custody, the Sheriff’s Office accepted $4,000 in bail from the individual without disclosing that the ICE hold would prevent their release.
Less than 12 hours after the arrest, ICE took custody of the individual and transported them to a detention facility. The Sheriff’s Office also failed to timely notify the individual’s consulate of their detention.

We advise community members to:
* Refuse communication with CBP/ICE.
* Avoid posting bail without first understanding whether an ICE hold is in place.

We call on elected Sheriff Bret Axlund to:
* Stop honoring administrative ICE holds that are not supported by a judicial warrant.
* Stop facilitating communication between detained individuals and CBP/ICE.
* Stop accepting bail without clearly informing individuals and their representatives that an ICE hold will result in continued detention despite payment.

La Asociación de Jefes de Policía de Arizona llevará a cabo su cumbre anual en Flagstaff del 14 al 16 de julio. El año pasado, la gran presencia de fuerzas del orden en la ciudad causó preocupación entre miembros de la comunidad que no estaban informados sobre el evento.

The Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police will hold its annual summit in Flagstaff from July 14–16. Last year, the large presence of law enforcement in the city caused concern among community members who were not aware of the event.

During these dates, consider avoiding the Little America Hotel, the DoubleTree by Hilton, and on the evening of Wednesday, July 15, when agencies will gather for a picnic, the Fort Tuthill County Park.

You may notice an increased number of law enforcement vehicles in the area, including unmarked cars.

If you see law enforcement, do not assume they are ICE. However, remain aware and informed. ICE already has agents in Flagstaff. Dial (928) 395-6330 if in doubt or to request support for an active ICE enforcement activity.

Un caso reciente en Prescott muestra un posible patrón de ICE para el cual las comunidades del norte de Arizona deben estar preparadas.

Un padre guatemalteco a quien llamaremos “Leo” fue detenido en Prescott en junio de 2026 y deportado en cuestión de días. Según su testimonio, los oficiales usaron identificación de “Police”, quitaron teléfonos e identificaciones, trasladaron a las personas a un punto de espera, limitaron el acceso a llamadas, presionaron a las personas para firmar documentos de salida voluntaria y deportaron a la gente rápidamente.

Según reportes, entre las personas detenidas en la misma operación había gente de Prescott, Sedona y Flagstaff. Eso significa que esta no es solo una historia de Prescott. Es una advertencia para todo el norte de Arizona.

A recent Prescott case shows a possible ICE playbook Northern Arizona communities should be ready for.

A Guatemalan father we’ll call “Leo” was detained in Prescott in June 2026 and deported within days. Based on his account, officers used “Police” branding, took phones and IDs, moved people to a staging area, limited access to calls, pressured people to sign voluntary departure paperwork, and deported people quickly.

People detained in the same operation reportedly included people from Prescott, Sedona, and Flagstaff. That means this is not just a Prescott story. It is a warning for all of Northern Arizona.
